How and Where to Buy the iPhone SE

Published

on

Apple announced a new 4-inch iPhone SE in March that is drawing the interest of first time iPhone buyers and users who are thinking about upgrading from an older iPhone 4s, iPhone 5 or iPhone 5s. If you don’t know how to buy the iPhone SE or where to buy the iPhone SE we have you covered.

There are many places you can buy the iPhone Se, but you may see different prices and different options depending where you go to buy the iPhone.

Right now you can only buy the iPhone SE on four major U.S. carriers or SIM Free, which means you can use it on more carriers — including some pre-paid carriers.

We’ll show you the important details you need to know about how and where to buy the iPhone SE.

Where to Buy the iPhone SE

The primary place that many shoppers will go to buy the iPhone SE is an Apple Store. You can buy the iPhone SE at any Apple Store for any of the official carrier options and they can get you set up and ready to go at no extra charge.

If this is your first iPhone, this is a great option since they will give you a good amount of training before you leave and help you learn how to use the iPhone SE. You can also sign up for additional classes at an Apple Store, even if you don’t buy it there.

You can buy the iPhone SE online at Apple for delivery to your home or office. You can then set it up at home or take it into the Apple Store for help setting it up.

Other options to buy the iPhone SE include Verizon, Sprint, T-Mobile and AT&T retail stores and their websites.

Walmart also lists the iPhone SE as coming soon, so you may be able to buy it in some stores later this month.

When to Buy the iPhone SE

You can pre-order the iPhone SE at Apple and at carrier websites at 12:01 AM Pacific on March 24th. If you want to buy the iPhone SE in person you will need to go to an Apple Store or carrier store on March 31st. Many times we see stores open early at 8 AM local time, but there is no confirmation yet.

How to Buy the iPhone SE

Most users will need their cell phone information to buy the iPhone SE at any of the options above.

Choose the right options before you go to the store.

Choose the right options before you go to the store.

You will need to choose how much storage you need (64GB if you can afford it), what color you want (which matters less if you use an iPhone SE case) and how you want to pay for the phone. This assumes you already know what carrier you want to use for the iPhone.

You need to be an authorized user to make changes like signing a new contract or buying a phone on a payment plan.

Before you go to the Apple Store or carrier you need to make sure you are eligible for an upgrade.

  • On Verizon dial #874 and you’ll get a text with upgrade information.
  • On AT&T dial *639# and you’ll get a text with upgrade information.
  • On Sprint login online and click on My Sprint then on Upgrade.
  • T-Mobile doesn’t offer contracts anymore but you may need to pay more to upgrade depending where you are in a payment plan.

You’ll need to decide if you want to pay $399 for the 16GB iPhone SE or $499 for the iPhone SE 64GB off contract — or if you want to sign a two-year contract on select carriers to get the iPhone SE for free when you stay with the carrier for two years. Another option is to buy the iPhone SE on a payment plan from your carrier for around $13 a month.

Apple Stores also offer an option to trade in an old iPhone to get the iPhone SE for as low $10 a month. Carriers and retailers also offer trade-in options.

iPhone 6s vs iPhone se: 6 Important Details

iPhone se vs iPhone 6s Screen Comparison

iPhone se vs iPhone 6s Screen Comparison

The most noticable difference when you start the iPhone se vs iPhone 6s comparison is the screen size, but there are other important differences relating to the display.

Apple delivers a 4-inch iPhone again with the iPhone se. This is quite small compared to the 4.7-inch iPhone 6s.

If you choose to buy the iPhone se you get an 1,136 x 640 resolution display with 326 pixels per inch. The iPhone 6s offers a hiugher resolution 1,334 x 750 resolution display, but it offers the same pixels per inch as the iPhone se.

Apple packs in 3D Touch on the iPhone 6s, but this is not present on the iPhone se. 3D Touch allows you to press harder on the screen to access quick actions and secondary menu options. It is a very nice feature, but not one that every Iphoen user consider essential.

The iPhone 6s has more than double the contrast ratio of the iPhone se. Both phones feature a 500cd/m2 brightness rating.

In short, you give up 3D Touch and get a smaller screen, but it's still a display that looks nice.

No thanks. I don’t want the iPhone Sheep Edition when my Android, which costed $200, is more powerful and does more than any iPhone can. FAIL
