How to Transfer Clash of Clans to a New Phone

Published

on

Here in mid 2016 a lot of new Android smartphones are available like the Galaxy S7, not to mention the iPhone 7 is coming soon. As a result, millions of Clash of Clans players will need to know how to transfer their game to a new phone. Below is a quick how to guide explaining what players need to know before making the switch, and how to do it. Be careful though, or you could lose an entire village.

Clash of Clans is one of the most popular games on Android and iOS and has been for years, even though Clash Royale is stealing some of its players. With millions of downloads on each platform, many will need to know how to transfer their account.

One question we keep getting is regarding how to transfer the game from one phone to another. Since everything is server side with the developer, Supercell, it isn’t just a copy/paste job. However, moving your Clash of Clans progress from one phone to another, playing on a second tablet, or switching from Android to an iPhone and more. It all can be done, so watch the quick video guide below.

Screen Shot 2014-08-28 at 10.56.38 AMTo be specific, this guide is how to transfer a Clash of Clans village to a new Android device, and we’ll briefly mention iOS and Game Center as well. You’ll need to download Clash of Clans on your new phone or tablet, sign into Google Games (or Apple’s Game Center) and you’re nearly done. We can even skip the tutorial now, and get right into the transfer.

Being able to play Clash of Clans on my phone while out and about or while sitting on the couch, then picking up right where I left off on my tablet is an awesome feature. The entire experience is seamless, and very consistent. Being cross-platform also helps, because you can easily transfer from iOS to Android as well, or vice-versa. Meaning you can play the same village on you Android phone and iPad, switch to new devices and more.

Instructions

With iOS and Game Center you’ll need a device linking code, but overall the process is still extremely easy and only takes a few moments, however, you’ll need both devices side by side to enter the code. More on that below.

With Android, transferring your Clash of Clans game information couldn’t be easier thanks to Google Play Games, and Google+. All you have to do is sync or sign-into Google Games (or Google+) inside the game and it transfers the data over and saves it. Download Clash of Clans on your new smartphone or tablet, then follow the steps from the video below. It’s worth mentioning that if you buy gems on the newly loaded game, or progress past a level 4 Town Hall, you can’t transfer your game data. So keep that in mind. Plus, who would want to start all over again anyways?

The video below was filmed with an older version of the game, but very similar options and settings apply here in 2016. The steps are also slightly different for iOS.

As you can see from the video above, it all takes under a minute. Simply hit the three gears “settings” button near the bottom right of the display, and connect to Google Games by hitting the “Google+ Sign-in” button, or saying ok to the Google Games popup. Once you connect to Google on the new device it will automatically sign you into Google Play Games, and find your existing game data. You’ll get a notification asking if you’d like to transfer your base, then just go ahead and select yes. Make sure it says the correct village Town Hall level before clicking Yes.

Screenshot_2014-08-28-10-08-17

Use caution, and make sure it’s loading the correct game. If you’ve started multiple different villages Google Games may have the wrong one backed up. If this for some reason doesn’t work head into settings > accounts > Google > and tap on your Google account. From here you’ll want to make sure your phone is syncing data to Google. Make sure Google+ and Google App Data sync is enabled, and you’re all set. Then try the steps from the video one more time.

I used the steps above to transfer my game data from a Galaxy S4 when I first started playing, to multiple devices I use today. Currently I play Clash on the Note 5, Galaxy S7 Edge, and Pixel C tablet. All the same village. Being able to easily transfer the entire game in seconds, and enjoy the same awesome experience on an array of devices, is pretty awesome.

As for iOS, the steps are somewhat different. Rather than doing all the sync options above, you’ll need to get a code from the “Old Device, New Device” pop-up from the video above. On an old device like the iPhone 5s hit settings and select “Old Device” and write down the code provided, or keep it nearby.

Settings4

Now, download and open Clash of Clans on a new iPhone 6s or iPad Mini, select “New Device” and enter the code provided. This will transfer the game over on iOS. Users have 5 minutes to enter the code, so don’t waste time. The village will now be on both devices. Uninstall the game on your old phone, or play on both, it’s up to you. The same steps apply to add a village from your iPhone to an iPad to play on both. Again, recent updates in 2016 could have changed this, but the steps remain about the same.

This same process also works for switching Clash of Clans from Android to iPhone, or from iPhone to Android. The code method is the safest and easiest choice. If you run into problems, below are some helpful tips. If possible, write down your username, TH level, experience level, Clan name, and even your Clan tag #. This all can be helpful for the Supercell support team in locating a lost or missing village in case of problems. And yes, they can help users recover a lost base, but it may take more than a few days for a reply.

If you’re a Windows Phone user wondering if this is possible for you, no, sadly it is not. The game has yet to launch on Windows Phone, but it could in the near future. More details regarding transferring your village and game can also be found from the developers forum. For any and all details about this game, check out our Clash of Clans Portal. The only problem that I faced while playing this game on my Smartphone is its battery get drain out soon. So I recently purchased a 6 Port USB Charger through which I can charge up to 6 Android as well as iOS based Smartphones simultaneously in any ratio with rapid charging process. It has capacity of 10 Amps.

Hi Ryan, you can transfer your Clash Of Clans data from your GS3 to your iPhone 6+ if you don’t have a Town Hall level 4 or above or didn’t buy any coins. All you have to do is go to settings/ trasnfer data/ different device/ and use your GS3 as the old device and your new iPhone 6+ as your new device and follow the steps it gives. If you need more help; Google for more in-depth help or YouTube it.

I have the same problem. I have an iPod 4 and and IPhone 5c but it won’t let me transfer my data. I found out that it’s because my iPod doesn’t have the most updated iOS software and that my gamecenter is different on the two devices. I don’t think there is a way to transfer the account if you don’t have the most current iOS update

If it’s on your Android device then sign in to Google Games (download the app from play sture of you don’t already have it) and then sign into your gmail. It syncs it.

On new phone install clash (don’t buy gems or ur done for) and sign into Google+ or Google Games in settings and it will sync your game history and village over.

since th11 update my 1st gen ipad has stopped me being able to load my game. will notify me when being attacked and will let me watch the attack but when battle is over everything I press then boots me off. so I’m unable to even open settings to link it with another device. i’v had the game for a year or so now and spent a responsible but silly helping amount that I never thought I’d do, as the game gets a hold of you almost strait after your first upgrades are done. with me it did anyway. I haven’t been able to play since the update and it’s pretty much left me with withdrawal symptoms. the need to upgrade, research, donate to my muchly needing clan members has really got to me. that much so Iv had to start a new base just to be involved. im now th7 already without spending a penny. i’v kinda rushed my way there because from being half way through th9 with a strong defensive base I’m missing the troops I was used to cooking and attacking with. some of my clan are close behind me due to new updates with th holding more loot plus all the other game changing updates. I won’t be spending ££ on the Base I have had to inconveniently resort to I must say. but if you can help me with recovering my official well earned 1 of a kind strategic th9 profile then il be happy to spend my hard earned money on starting some well needed upgrades that are well over due. i also can not remember the right google play details to transfer it to any other device. i know everything else that can prove that it’s my property ie (email address for payments I have made from, clan members etc) please SUPERCELL I need your help to recover or transfer to me. thanks in advance. anybody else having the same problem? advice much appreciated!

Yeah it is ridiculous. Why not just a game login like all the other billion games out there. My IPad was stolen so obviously I can’t sign in on the old device and support keep asking for more and more things. Hopefully they get it sorted soon.

  43. Matthew Jackson

    02/22/2016 at 1:13 pm

They need your username, clan name, exact Xp then a screenshot of your first gem ever purchase if you made any. Other things that help are knowing where and when you first loaded the game or other specifics. I hope this helps you and you get your base back like I hope to.

  44. Matthew Jackson

    02/24/2016 at 6:17 am

Hey Brendon. I feel your pain and more. Try playing for years then just when they finally make a significant upgrade including finally level 11 Town hall you go and lose your iPad. Help won’t let me into my base even after sending the information and my first purchase because it doesn’t match with their records apparently. Starting again would be horrible. When you have max level defenses and troops almost going back to level one Is a crushing blow. So I might have to retire. It will give me so much time for other things and with a busy job maybe it is for the best.

You care supposed to be able to get your game back on your own if you saved it like supercell recommends. If you saved it on Game Center while you played it on your iOS device then log into Game Center on your new IOS device first. You should see coc listed as one of your games. Now download and install coc. Follow prompts and it will ask you to load your old game. If you saved it on android with Google+ or google play your new android device will give you option to sign into that and load old village.
If your new device is android and old was iOS or was IOS and now Android you have to link them first through the CoC game settings to get your village to load. If you don’t have your old device and didn’t link them but did save them only way I know is to find someone who has a device same as your old type of OS and doesn’t play clash of clans to allow you to download the game on their device. For iOS Sign out of their Game Center and then sign into Game Center with your account. Download CoC and once your game is up link it to Android device. For Android use their phone to load CoC and after sign in with your google play and link your new IOS. Once done they can just delete CoC from their device. I have also used an emulator for Android called Blue Stacks on a computer and then linked an IOS device.
If you never saved your game then supercell is only one who can help.

I have tried to transfer my account but it never gives me a code it just says log into game center on your new device snd it should be there. Well it isn’t. My phone made me start a new account and it won’t let me transfer my old one.

I just got a new Samsung Galaxy J7 and want to transfer the village on my iPhone 5c onto it. My iPhone won’t let me log into Game Center anymore, so I can’t link the devices. Is there anyway I can transfer the village on my old phone onto my new one? I just don’t want to lose my old village because I have been playing the game for three years now!

They still keep forgetting the explaination how to do ONE thing ->

!!!! HOW can you transfer the OFFLINE made progress level 11 to a NEW device and same mail account with an OLD level 1 !!!

the problem is that when i do select a google+ email adress i want to use on the new device it keeps saying if i want to load the level 1 (Overwrtiting level 11 ) progress … well hell no off course not ….

so how can this old level 1 be overwritten by the progess, i made offline to level 11, and be synced to google+ so AFTER this i can sync level 11 to a lot more new devices.

Hello – I followed all of the steps suggested but I’m not getting a code from my old TH9 village (on iPad) to enter into Clash on my new iPhone (where it’s started me off with a TH2 village I don’t want and don’t know how to get rid of…) Game Center keeps trying to override my longstanding TH9 village with the new and useless TH2 village. Apart from proving why machines will never take over the world, this is unhelpful. Can anyone tell me how to force it to give me the code rather than a box about automatically synchronising via Game Center which clearly isn’t working…

My previous phone died suddenly. I was just ready to level up to a 12 palace, I believe. I do not want to start over a 3rd time. Is there a way I can still transfer to my new phone since I cannot transfer using my old phone? Thank you so much!

Thank you so much for this advice. You have made my eight-year-old son very happy. No other site came close to giving such straightforward advice.

  68. I have been reviewin online more than 10 hours today for dell windows 7 starter snpc oa mea driver & How to Transfer Clash
of Clans to a New Phone, yet I never found any interesting
article like yours. It’s pretty worth enough for me.
In my view, if all webmasters and bloggers made good
content as you did, the internet will be much more useful than ever
    before.
