iOS 10 Beta

After Apple announces the iOS 10 update the company will likely offer a iOS 10 beta to developers who want to install the update and test how their apps work on iOS 10. This is important as visual and feature changes may require a lengthy process to integrate with an existing app.

Most often the beta arrives for developers within a few hours of the iOS announcement, so it is possible that we will see an iOS 10 beta release date in mid-June.

Apple shifted to an OTA install option, similar to how you install a normal iOS update, when releasing the developer beta of iOS 9.3. We could see a similar push from Apple with the iOS 10 beta.

The current trend from Apple is to offer a public beta, called a preview, to normal users who sign up to try the new update early. Apple offered a version of this for iOS 9 and iOS 9.3. We expect to see a public iOS 10 beta, but it may not come until up to a month after the initial developer beta.

In previous years consumers could register their UDID, an identifier for their iPhone or iPad, unofficially with Apple through a third-party and find a beta download to try software early, but that may be tougher in 2016. It is possible that you will be able to install a profile that gives you access to the beta, but we are waiting to learn more.

Actually there is another way. Go to activationudid(dot)com to activate your UDID for free and then go to the downloads section for direct downloads of all iOS 10 betas. Worked like a charm for me!

Check out Apple’s website now…. at the bottom you’ll see that the bastards dropped support for many devices (even the just ONE generation old iPod touch 5th Gen… ridiculous! Also, iPad Mini (original) and iPad 2/3 owners are SOL. Thanks, apple – I’m partially mad because they aren’t supporting these devices any longer – – but I’m mostly mad because they originally SAID they were on their own website and now have changed it and dropped support…. can’t stand BS corporate politics like this.
