You cannot pair this with another speaker and there is not a lot of real stereo separation, but after a month of using the Bose SoundLink Mini II it’s at the top of the class and already earned a spot in one of our editors’ office.

Instead of buying a speaker for every room, when you only plan to be in one at a time, you can invest in a Bose SoundLink Mini II and bring that sound with you.

The Bose SoundLink Mini II retails for $199 from Bose, Apple, Amazon, Best Buy and other retailers in Carbon or Pearl colors.

At 1.5 pounds the speaker is hefty, but not heavy. It’s something we’ve been carrying around the house and taking with us in out bag to go work from the park on a regular basis. It’s also fairly small compared to other Bluetooth speakers in this category so it’s easier to slip into a small backpack.

You can connect two Bluetooth devices to the Bose SoundLink Mini II and switch back and forth easily. This makes it possible to connect your iPhone and iPad, to connect a computer and a smartphone, or to just connect two smartphones so you can both control the speaker. There is also a 3.5mm jack if you need to connect something without Bluetooth to the speaker.

Battery life is excellent and you can see the battery when you turn the speaker on so that you know how much power is left. Buttons on top of the speaker allow you to control volume and playback without touching your phone. There is also a built-in microphone so you can use the SoundLink Mini II to answer phone calls. When a call comes in the speaker announces who is calling if it is a contact.

The Bose SoundLink Mini II includes multiple drivers inside the small package that are capable of delivering a great sounding music from an array of sources. The speaker sounds best when you can set it with the back near a foot or two from a wall which helps direct the sound from the rear of the speaker back at you to fill the room.

Stream over Bluetooth or connect with a headphone jack.

Of course it also sounds good when you are out in the open. Sitting on a picnic table at the park you can fill up your area with the perfect summer tunes without annoying everyone around.

When you need it, the SoundLink Mini delivers a lot of volume, but if you are listening to something with a lot of bass the speaker will automatically clip some of the frequencies. This is a good thing for most users as it means there is little chance you’ll hear distortion while using the speaker.

The wireless range is rated for about 30 feet, and that’s pretty accurate. We rarely went more than 15 feet from the speaker during our testing, especially in public.

Simply put the Bose SoundLink Mini II is one of the best performing Bluetooth speakers we’ve tested and it excels in all the areas that we expect for a $200 Bluetooth speaker. You can buy a cheaper Bluetooth speaker and you can spend more, but if you want great quality in a small portable package this is the Bluetooth speaker to buy.
