Game of Thrones Season 7 Release Date
The Game of Thrones Season 7 release date is set for summer 2017. In an announcement in mid July HBO confirmed a summer Game of Thrones Season 7 release date.
HBO did not offer a specific day that the series will start, but it normally airs on Sunday night, so there are only a few options.
This is a small delay from the normal Game of Thrones season premier that typically starts in April.
This is due to the Game of Thrones Season 7 locations and the need for grim, wintery weather.
Game of Thrones Season 7 Episodes
HBO also announced that there are seven Game of Thrones Season 7 episodes for the 2017 return of the series.
Normally there are 10 episodes that are each an hour long. This time around, expect seven, hour-long episodes of the series.
We don’t yet know the names of any of the Game of Thrones Season 7 episodes or what they include.
Game of Thrones Season 7 Filming Locations
In the announcement HBO also revealed that the Game of Thrones Season 7 filming locations include Northern Ireland, Spain and Iceland.
This is important because the last time significant filming happened in Iceland the series went North of the Wall with Jon Snow in a Wildings camp. This may be a hint at where the Game of Thrones Season 7 plot is taking us.
Game of Thrones Season 7 Cast and Characters
There is no confirmed list of Game of Thrones Season 7 cast members and characters that will return, but in 2014 HBO reportedly signed up many members of the cast for a season 7 option. This includes;
- Kit Harington – Jon Snow
- Peter Dinklage – Tyrion
- Lena Headey – Cersei
- Emilia Clarke – Daenerys
- Nikolaj Coster-Waldau Jaime
This allows the team to call them to work on season 7, but it isn’t a sure sign that they will appear. Just because you don’t see a character listed doesn’t mean they won’t return.
Game of Thrones Ending?
The Game of Thrones Season 7 finale will not be the Game of Thrones ending. According to the creators of HBO’s adaptation of Game of Thrones the series will stretch to 73 hours, give or take.
Speaking to Deadline, David Benioff says, “It’s two more seasons we’re talking about. From pretty close to the beginning, we talked about doing this in 70-75 hours, and that’s what we’ll end up with. Call it 73 for now. What Dan says is really true, but it’s not just trying not to outstay your welcome. We’re trying to tell one cohesive story with a beginning, middle and end. As Dan said, we’ve known the end for quite some time and we’re hurtling towards it. ”
Prepare for a short season in 2017 and then a shorter Game of Thrones Season 8 in 2018.
