Pixel XL vs Nexus 6P: Specs

Now for what everyone has been waiting for. The phones might not look all that great, have screen sizes different from past years, but what makes them special. Well, aside from being "made by Google inside and out" is the special Android 7.1 Nougat software.

We aren't seeing anything major or revolutionary here, but that wasn't expected. These phones do have top-tier specs slightly higher than anything else released in 2016. Better than the Galaxy S7, Note 7, and other Android devices.

Google Pixel XL Specs

  • 5.5-inch 2560 x 1440 Quad-HD AMOLED Display
  • Quad-core Snapdragon 821 Processor with 4GB of RAM
  • 32 or 128GB of storage (no micro-SD slot, and no 64GB model)
  • Android 7.1 Nougat (with Google Magic UI, Assistant, and more)
  • 12.3 Megapixel rear camera, 8MP front camera (no camera bulge)
  • Rear-mounted fingerprint scanner
  • Bottom facing speaker + 3 microphones
  • USB Type-C port for Rapid Charging
  • 3,450 mAh battery (same as Nexus 6P)
  • IP53 Splash resistant (not water resistant like Samsung/Apple)
  • more

Looking at those specs the Pixel XL has a lot to offer, and should be a highly capable and excellent smartphone. Having the latest and greatest Android software, Google UI tweaks and additions, a faster Snapdragon 821 processor and more. Google also doubled storage to 32GB or 128GB, and won't offer a 16 or 64GB model. Sadly they never offer microSD support either.

Google said it has the best camera of any smartphone. Period. It scored higher than any device in independant camera tests too. We're also seeing a big 3,450 mAh battery which is bigger than what comes in the Galaxy Note 7 and other phones of this size. The Pixel XL is very similar across the board to the Galaxy S7 Edge. Here's how this compares to the Nexus 6P from 2015. The Pixel does not have image stabilization on the camera. Well, it has software stabilization. Not OIS.

Nexus 6P Specs

  • 5.7-inch 2560 x 1440 Quad-HD Display
  • 8-core Snapdragon 810 processor with 3GB of RAM
  • 32/64/128GB storage configurations
  • Android 6.0 Marshmallow (now Android 7.0)
  • 12 Megapixel Rear and 8 MP front camera, laser autofocus, no OIS
  • 3,450 mAh battery (same as Pixel XL)
  • Aluminum Design
  • Dual Front Facing Speakers
  • Fingerprint Scanner
  • USB Type-C Port
  • more

Overall the specs are somewhat similar but with small improvements to the processor, camera, storage, and other things. These phones have the same resolution display, the same size battery, and both have USB Type-C. Users will miss the dual front speakers though.

Of course many Nexus users will upgrade to a Pixel, but from what we're seeing the jump isn't too significant. It's enough for me, and the Pixel XL will likely be my new daily smartphone.

Yeah and a new Snapdragon 821 processor no other phone has yet.. Not to mention a better camera, more storage, Google Assistant, Android 7.1 Nougat and more. But yeah, it’s not a huge upgrade

Absolutely no good comparison to the Nexus 6P… is the upgrade worth it? I’m doubting it is but you did nothing to reinforce my thoughts or change my mind. Clickbait!
