Gears of War 4 Xbox One Release: What You Need to Know

What Black Tusk was working on before its latest game may always remain a mystery. Renamed and rebranded as The Coalition, the Canadian studio dropped what it was working on to become the Gears of War franchise’s forever home. The Gears of War 4 Xbox One release will mark a major development for the studio and Microsoft’s latest video game console.

The Gears of War 4 Xbox One release will mark the first time that a main new game in the series has harnessed the power of the Xbox One. The first three games in the series, all arrived for Xbox 360, and each of them are playable on Xbox One thanks to last year’s Gears of War Ultimate Edition release. Second, Gears of War 4 will become the poster-child for Xbox Live’s cross-platform reach. When users purchase a version on Xbox One, they’ll be able to play some modes alongside their friends on Windows PCs. It doesn’t hurt anything that Gears of War 4 looks to have amazing visuals and a story that’ll finally reveal what happened to protagonist Marcus Fenix after the bloody events of Gears of War 3.

The Gears of War 4 Xbox One release arrives on October 11th. Here’s what you need to know about the game’s launch on Microsoft’s premiere gaming console before it arrives.

The Many Different Editions of Gears of War 4 for Xbox One

As it has with console bundles, Microsoft has elevated its game when it comes to delivering editions. Gears of War 4 comes in a number of different versions, each with their own advantage and disadvantage.

Gears of War 4: Ultimate Edition includes a Steelbook case and access to the game’s season pass content. Again, it sells for $99.99. Of course, there’s the standard edition of the game too, which costs $59.99 and doesn’t including anything except pre-order bonuses. Both of these have physical and digital counterparts.

Finally, there’s the Gears of War 4 Collector’s Edition package. This version of the game comes with an 11-inch statue made by Triforce. The statue shows new series protagonist JD Fenix sitting atop a motorcycle. There’s also a lithograph and a key chain included in the package.
