Improve Performance

There are multiple ways to improve performance on a smartphone, and we have two neat ones for the Galaxy S7. One involves getting rid of an app that seems to slow it down, and the other is a trick hidden in the developer options. We'll start with that one first. Your best bet is to follow this how to guide.

Head into settings and navigate to the last panel titled “System” and select “About Device”. Then where it says “Build Number” tap that box seven (7) times. This will enable the hidden developer menu of settings, which is where we change a few things and speed up the Galaxy S7. You'll see a prompt that it has been unlocked.

With the developer menu unlocked we’ll need to navigate there and change three quick settings about halfway down the screen to speed up the Galaxy S7 or Galaxy S7 Edge.

Head to Settings > Developer Options > and Scroll down a little more than halfway to Window Animation Scale, Transition Animation Scale, and Animator Duration Scale. These are all set to 1x. Turning these values up (higher numbers) you’ll see animations and screen transitions get extremely slow, that’s not what we want. Owners can try it just for fun, but we’re actually turning them down, or off completely.

Change all three of those settings in the blue box above down from 1.0x to 0.5x value. Now when users open apps, swipe through screens, or do anything all the animations and effects will be cut in half, and twice as fast. The phone will instantly feel almost twice as fast, and that’s because everything is swiping, flowing, or opening faster and with less pretty animations.

Another option is to long press anywhere on the homescreen that's blank, and manage the home windows. Scroll over the "Briefing" which is an app that pulls news from multiple sources, and disable it. Now when users swipe left the phone doesn't lag and get slow. You can now use this left of home window for more app icons, rather than wasting space with a news app you probably don't use.

Can I also add my spouse to the fingerprint scan? So we’re both able to use the device?

Google Now gets it wrong so often that it is useless. When did you ever hear anyone use it? Never.

I normally do not leave comments, but thank you for this helpful list! It informed me on things I didn’t know my phone could do, such as the SOS feature.
