Apple Reveals Product Red Accessories, Deals for World AIDS Day

For World AIDS Day Apple is selling new Product Red accessories, offering Product Red App tie-ins and donating $1 every time you make a purchase on Apple.com or in an Apple Store with Apple Pay.

This effort continues Apple’s fight against HIV/AIDS, which is now in the 10th year with Product Red. Steve Jobs started Apple’s involvement which has contributed $120 million of the $360 million raised by Product Red.

When you make a Product Red purchase you support (RED), which provides counseling, testing and medicine that prevents the transmission of AIDS from a mother to her child.

UNAIDS predicts that we could see the end of babies born with AIDS within 3 years. Currently 400 babies are born with AIDS every day, but we could see this drop to near zero in 2020.

Apple asks, “Please help us make a difference.” in the announcement of new Product Red accessories and Product Red in app purchases. While Apple could write a check without asking consumers to help, Tim Cook tells Reuters, “When we put ourselves into something, it’s worth a lot more than just money.”

There is a new Apple Smart Battery Case in Product Red, and a variety of other products that you can purchase to help support the charity.

For one week you can make in app purchases in specific games and apps to support Product Red. Games include Angry Birds, Best Friends, Boom Beach, Candy Crush Jelly Saga, Clash of Clans, Clash Royale, PewDiePie’s Tuber Simulator, SimCity BuildIt, Plants vs. Zombies Heroes, FIFA, Hay Day and many others.

When you use Apple Pay to make a purchase at Apple Stores or Apple.com the company will donate $1, up to $1 million. Bank of America is also donating $1 for each Apple Pay transaction up to $1 million.

“There’s still way too many people dying of AIDS, still too many kids being born with HIV, and so we are continuing to press really hard.” said Cook.
