One of the things that made 2016 a good year was the amount of good television shows that went on-air. A lot of those shows were courtesy of Netflix – with its slate of original programming constantly growing, viewers can certainly expect to get more bang for their buck this year on their Netflix subscription. In case you needed reminding, here’s a list of 15 exciting Netflix shows that are both rumored and scheduled to hit your queues in 2017. A Series of Unfortunate Events

Based on Lemony Snicket’s highly popular set of children’s books, this Netflix original comes 13 years after a big screen adaptation starring Jim Carrey. This time, the incredibly talented Neil Patrick Harris stars as the despicable Count Olaf.

Marvel’s Iron Fist

Netflix has done a pretty good job providing us with original shows that satiate our Marvel fix and introducing us to heroes that aren’t the Avengers, so the fact that there’s a new one being added to the collection this year is exciting. This time, we get to meet Danny Rand, AKA the Iron Fist.

Santa Clarita Diet

13 episodes, scheduled for release on February 3, 2017

Drew Barrymore and Timothy Olyphant star in this Netflix Original as Sheila and Joel, real estate agents and married couple based in – you guessed it – Santa Clarita, California. Pegged as a comedy-horror by the streaming service, the show focuses on the aftermath of Sheila’s death. (Yes, you read that right.)

Sense8, Season 2

10 episodes, scheduled for release on May 5, 2017

We desperately want to know what happened to the eight individuals that are strangely connected mentally and physically after the first season’s conclusion. Are they in danger? Will they be able to outsmart Whispers? In case four months is too long a wait to find out, you can tide things over with a two-hour special released last Christmas.

Girlboss

Based on Sophia Amoruso’s popular autobiography #Girlboss, this Netflix Original is a comedy about a rebellious woman who accidentally finds her calling in selling vintage clothes on the Internet. There seems to be no official trailer released for this upcoming show, but here is the woman the series’ titular character will be based on, being interviewed by Chelsea Handler.

Chelsea, Season 2

90 episodes, scheduled for release in 2017

We already flagged this show as one of the best of Netflix’s slew of original programming, so of course we’re excited that it’s coming back for a second season. While there isn’t an official trailer or premiere date released, the show’s Wikipedia page states the new season’s first episode would probably air in April this year. Master of None, Season 2

Scheduled for release in April 2017

Hailed as one of the best shows in 2015 and winner of a bunch of awards at the 2016 Emmy Awards, Master of None is a definite must-watch. It was well received by critics and fans alike that it was eventually renewed for a second season, slated for release in April 2017. As of this writing, official word on the number of episodes and trailer for the upcoming series have not been released.

Anne

If you are a fan of Lucy Maud Montgomery’s 1908 novel Anne of Green Gables, be sure to keep an eye out for this series slated for spring of this year. According to the show’s official Facebook page, while honoring the foundation of the classic novel, the show will also explore newer themes that include bullying, feminism, identity, and prejudice.

Bill Nye Saves The World

Fans of Bill Nye the Science Guy will be delighted to know that he’s been given a talk show where he can geek out about science and its connection with today’s society, culture, and politics. While the actual release date and number of episodes is still undetermined, we know that he will be joined by five correspondents, The Daily Show style.

Dear White People

Before it was picked up by Netflix, Dear White People was a 2014 satirical comedy film that follows Samantha White, a bi-racial film production major who hosts a radio show called “Dear White People” at a prominent university that’s predominantly attended by white students. Netflix has neither announced an official premiere date nor released an official trailer for the show, but to give you an idea of what to expect, here’s the trailer for the movie the series will be based on.

Stranger Things,  Season 2

Stranger Things was arguably one of the best shows 2016 had to offer, and we’re relieved that it was renewed for another go. It’s hard to talk about the show without giving much away, and it’s proven by this cryptic trailer Netflix released for season two, which reportedly will pick up about a year after the events of season one and will delve into the mysteries behind a certain person’s disappearance.

Wet Hot American Summer: Ten Years Later

In 2001, the cult comedy Wet Hot American Summer came out. Last year, Netflix produced Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp as a prequel to the movie. This new release will serve as the sequel to the film, in case you haven’t had enough of Elizabeth Banks, Michael Ian Black, Bradley Cooper, Ken Marino, Amy Poehlr, Paul Rudd, and the rest of the Camp Firewood gang.

Gypsy

Naomi Watts is Jean Holloway, “a therapist who begins to develop dangerous and intimate relationships with the people in her patients’ lives,” while Billy Crudup has been cast to play her husband. Unfortunately, an official trailer for the new drama is unavailable, and no official premiere date has been announced.

Mystery Science Theater 3000

Those of you who enjoyed watching two mad scientists force humans and robots to ridicule bad movies should be excited to know that the Kickstarter-funded revival of this cult series – which ran from 1988 to 1999 – is coming this year. It will reportedly feature movies from a list of 20 culled by creator Joel Hodgson, as well as a new look for the Satellite of Love and the show’s opening credits.

Marvel’s Defenders

As if having one new Marvel TV show this year isn’t enough, comic book fans will be treated to one more miniseries sometime later this year, this time uniting Netflix’s slew of new street heroes – Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist – into one cohesive unit. Although we only get eight episodes as opposed to Netflix’s staple of thirteen, those who have been following all the shows can look forward to the new team-up battling “their biggest threat yet.”
