Air Command

The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 includes Air Command an incredibly useful looking tool for the S Pen which allows users to click the S Pen button while near the screen and pull up a fanned out menu of 5 S Pen options. This quick access setting lets users quickly open up new S Pen options including;

  • Action Memo
  • Scrapbook
  • Screen Write
  • S Finder
  • Pen Window

Users can access this from anywhere on the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 screen for immediate access to their information.

New Multitasking Options

The Galaxy Note 3 now lets users do more on the multitasking front with an enhanced Multi Window option. Users can now pair up multiple windows of the same app so they can chat with two people at once on the ChatON app for example. This also lets users drag and drop, so it’s easy to share a message from one window to another while in Multi Window mode.

Larger Full HD Display

We can’t forget the new 1080P HD display that graces the front of the Samsung Galaxy Note 3. The new display is 5.7-inches, a small bump from the Galaxy Note 2’s 5.5-inch display, but the biggest increase is in the resolution department. With a 1920 x 1080 resolution users have a better screen to look at images, text and videos, plus movies and TV shows will show up at native 1080P resolution.

New Leather Back

The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 ditches a plastic back for leather, or at least faux leather which Samsung claims will help users hold on to the Galaxy Note 3 better. The Leather backs come standard on the Galaxy Note 3 and at launch the device will come in three colors; black, pink and white.

Removable Back and Micro SD Card

The Samsung Galaxy Note 3’s back is removable, which allows users to swap batteries and to expand storage with a Micro SD card. Many new smartphones are going to non-removable batteries and no SD card slots, so Samsung fans will be happy to see that these hallmark features remain.

New S Pen

Samsung showed off a new S Pen during the Galaxy Note 3 event. While a lot of the new features come from software, the S Pen is now more flush with the Galaxy Note 3 and features a new design. Pulling the S Pen out of the Galaxy Note 3 launches the Air Command feature making it more useful immediately.

The Samsung Galaxy Gear is another announcement, and it looks like it could be a great Galaxy Note 3 companion. This device pairs up with the Note 3 allowing users to view alerts and emails and then see the same email on the screen of the Note 3 when they pull it out of their pocket thanks to Smart Relay. Users can also answer calls using the Galaxy Gear as a hands free device.

More Storage

The Galaxy S4 came in a 16GB model that earned complaints from users thanks to the large space taken up by Samsung files. This time around the Galaxy Note 3 comes in 32GB and 64GB options. This means more storage and assures U.S. users of access to at least the 32GB option on all carriers.

13MP Camera With Stabilization

The Galaxy Note 3 includes an upgraded 13MP camera that includes smart stabilization. This is Samsung’s optical image stabilization which will make photos look better thanks to advanced technology. Users also have access to a host of camera modes found on the Galaxy S4 including Dual Shot.

While users are in an app on the Galaxy Note 3, they can activate Air Command, pick Pen Window and draw a box where they want to see a new app. Users can then pick an app, like Calculator, which will open up sized to fit the box the user drew on-screen.

Multi Vision

Samsung announced Group Play with the Galaxy S4 which lets users pair several Galaxy devices together to act as speakers, and with the Galaxy Note 3 users can now pair up as many as three Galaxy Note 3’s together to make a really big screen for video. Once paired users will see a video spanning all three displays.

4K Recording

In addition to taking great looking photos with image stabilization, the Galaxy Note 3 can record video in 4k, which means users can share their favorite moments in the new standard for HD, assuming they have a 4K HDTV.

Galaxy Note 3 S View Flip Cover

The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 S View Flip Cover is new for the Note 3, borrowing from the design of the Galaxy S4. The Note 3 S View Flip Cover replaces the back of the Galaxy Note 3 and adds a larger window that the S Pen can work through. The Note 3 S View case comes in multiple colors. No price is announced yet.

Find My Mobile & Anti Theft Features

The Galaxy Note 3 includes a new Find My Mobile feature that allows users to quickly locate a lost or stolen device. The app also allows users to secure their information so it doesn’t fall into the wrong hands. New authentication features allow users to prevent a thief from resetting the Note 3 and selling it, which could help make it a less attractive target for thieves.

Galaxy Note 3 Remote Control

Like the Samsung Galaxy S4, the Galaxy Note 3 features a IR blaster that works with Samsung WatchON to let users control a HDTV, home theater and cable box. This turns the Note 3 into a smart remote control at no extra charge.

Smart Scroll

The Galaxy Note 3 also uses the same eye-sensing tech as the Galaxy S4 to deliver Smart Scroll. This allows users to tilt the device or their head to scroll on select Samsung apps including the stock web browser.

Adaptive Display and Sound

The Galaxy Note 3 steals another feature from the Galaxy S4. In addition to a bigger, higher-resolution display, the Note 3 uses Adapt Display to adjust display properties for a better viewing experience no matter the conditions. Adapt Sound will also tweak sound properties to offer better overall sound with the Note 3.

Faster, Longer Range  WiFi

Users with a new 802.11ac WiFi router will enjoy faster WiFi speeds, but the speeds will still be limited by home cable connections. The biggest enhancement is the longer range that 802.11ac provides, so users may find the Note 3 gets a WiFi signal where other devices don’t.

Smart Pause

While some users call Smart Pause a gimmick, other users will love the ability to automatically pause many videos when the Note 3 detects the user is looking away. This works in some Samsung apps, but not all video apps, which limits the appeal some, but not completely.

1080P Front Facing Camera

Users that video chat a lot on the Galaxy Note 3 will love the 1080P front facing camera which should deliver a good-looking full HD version of themselves to the chat partners.

Use the Galaxy Note 3 with Gloves On

The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 features a new screen that allows users to operate it with gloves on. Most smartphone displays do not work with gloves on, so this is still a hard to find feature. This could come in handy for construction workers as well as people who love winter sports.

Big Galaxy Note 3 Battery

In addition to being removable, the Galaxy Note 3 battery is big. Samsung bumps it up from 3100 mAh in the Note 2 to 3200 mAh in the Galaxy Note 3. Combine this with a power efficient processor and users should expect very good Galaxy Note 3 battery life.

S Finder

Once users pull out the S Pen and activate Air Command they can search the entire Galaxy Note 3 with S Finder. S Finder searches memos, contacts, notes and even recognizes handwriting and symbols. Users can also enjoy the new S Note app that syncs with Evernote to search even more places with S Finder.

Air Gesture on Note 3

The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 includes support for Air Gestures which allows users to control the Note 3 by swiping a hand in front of it. This includes the ability to wave a hand to answer or reject a call, to switch through photos and more.

S Voice Hands Free

The Galaxy Note 3 includes a new version of S Voice called Hands Free. Samsung is not sharing many details of this yet, but one of the new features of the Note 3 processor is the ability to always listen for a key word and respond to commands similar to how the Moto X always lets users open Google Now. We are waiting for confirmation, but it looks like the Note 3 could have a similar feature.
