32 Apps Will Support the iPad’s New Retina Display at Launch

Earlier Friday morning, midnight in some cases, Apple’s new iPad will go on sale to those that weren’t able to snag a launch day pre-order. On board the new iPad will be a new, high-resolution Retina Display, a feature that early reviewers have raved about as it offers quadruple the resolution of the iPad 2. That means that applications will get a major boost in the looks department. Not all apps will feature Retina support at launch however.

In fact, at the moment, it appears that there are only 20 applications that will support the new iPad’s Retina Display at launch.

Earlier today, we told you that Evernote and Amazon had updated their applications to support the high-resolution display but there are 18 others – not including the stock apps – that will take advantage of the new resolution of the third-generation iPad.

Here is the full list, we’ll add them as we find them:

  • Amazon Kindle for iPad
  • Barefoot World Atlas
  • Calcbot
  • Chaos Rings II
  • Constant HD
  • Day One
  • Diamond Dash
  • Evernote
  • Flight Control Rocket
  • Foosball HD
  • Incredibooth
  • Infinity Blade 2
  • iStopMotion for iPad
  • Joining Hands
  • Labyrinth 2 HD
  • Martha Stewart Cookies
  • NYTimes for iPad
  • SketchBook Pro for iPad
  • Sky Gamblers: Air Supremacy
  • SolarWalk
  • Star Walk for iPad
  • StockTouch
  • Tweetbot
  • Weather Pro

We already touched on the Kindle, Evernote and Sky Gamblers: Air Supremacy applications earlier today and all three updates look fantastic.

In addition, according to Wired, Apple has promised another 12 third-party applications will be hitting the App Store with Retina Support on launch day which will bring the total up to 35 total launch day Retina apps.

Not a bad count and there are definitely some gems in there.

Now, as I’ve pointed out, these apps have me worried about my 16GB iPad purchase. Some apps are a lot bigger than their counterparts, in some cases  five times bigger, and so it appears that space could be tight for those that bought the iPad with the least amount of storage.

We shall find out tomorrow.
