4 Reasons Not to Install iOS 9.2 & 5 Reasons You Should

Published

on

It’s 2016 and the iOS 9.2 update is still the up-to-date version of iOS 9. While there are some reasons to install the iOS 9.2 update today there are also some reasons why you might want to hold off, at least for the moment.

The iOS 9.2 beta was released in late October confirming an iOS 9.2 update for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. In the weeks that followed, Apple released three more beta updates, each with their own set of changes and problems.

In December, Apple decided that the iOS 9.2 update was ready for primetime and released it for iPhone, iPad and iPad touch models around the world. If you own a device that’s compatible with iOS 9, you can download and install iOS 9.2.

Note: If you are looking for reasons to and not to install the newer iOS 9.2.1 update for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch, please head here.

How-to-Install-iOS-9.2-2

iOS 9.2 is Apple’s fourth iOS 9 update and the second milestone upgrade for the new operating system. Like Apple’s iOS 9.1 update, iOS 9.2 brings a collection of new features and bug fixes for iOS 9 problems.

There’s a lot to like about iOS 9.2. Apple’s loaded up with changes and it’s going to be a tempting install for many iPhone, iPad and iPod touch users.

There are some reasons why you might want to install iOS 9.2 today but there are also some reasons why you might want to avoid it today, tomorrow and perhaps in the weeks ahead. This guide will take you through these reasons and help you make a decision about iOS 9.2.

Remember, Apple doesn’t force you to install its software updates so you have all the time in the world to reach a conclusion. And with iOS 9.2.1 and iOS 9.3 updates on the way, you shouldn’t feel any pressure to make a move.

Install iOS 9.2 If You Value Security

Install iOS 9.2 If You Value Security

One thing that iPhone and iPad users often overlook are the security enhancements that Apple delivers with each iOS update.

The iOS 9.2 update delivers 30 patches for potential exploits and malware. The list of patches includes updates for Safari (including new third-party extensions for the View Controller), Photos, and iBooks among others.

These are going to be extremely important for most Phone and iPad users and they're one of the big reasons why you might want to install the iOS 9.2 update right now.

this article is nonsense. your reasons not to, have nothing to do with the software – just the user’s lack of preparedness or their own worries.

I disagree. The article spells out benefits and risks, and is aimed at the average user. OS updates can never be 100% predictable, and it’s nonsense to pretend they can. Being unprepared is a legitimate reason to wait on an update, and it’s sensible to remind people of that, and tell them what they need to do to prepare. People have busy lives, and being first adopters of software updates is not at the top of everyone’s list. It’s also legitimate to be worried about the updates if you have mission-critical uses for your phone. Travelling, or depending on it for other reasons, you don’t have the time to deal with problems, and it’s working adequately for now? Those are perfectly reasonable circumstances to defer updates.

If the update is useful to you, and you have all the time and resources to deal with it if something goes wrong, then of course the warnings don’t apply to you. Don’t disrespect others if they do.

Let just look at the title “4 Reasons Not to Install iOS 9.2 & 5 Reasons You Should”

Its not “4 tips to remember when upgrading your iOS version & 5 Reasons why you Should update”

        THAT THE PROBLEM.

Downloaded IOS 9.2 to my iPhone 6… Now screen is freezing, opening random apps, sending non comprehensive texts… It looks like someone is actually touching all these different apps and letters. Anyone have or heard of this problem?

      • Jukebox_SFO

        03/08/2016 at 2:10 am

I have similar problem on my iPhone6s+ with IOS 9.2

” screen frozen at times; it opening random apps, sending random texts in apps…or swipe through screens…… like someone is actually touching all these apps and typing letters”,

        — reset iPhone to manufacturing default seems helps to reduce the frequency of described problems above. Hence not sure if it is a “touch screen” hardware function problem.

There are so many ads on this blog that it’s really annoying to read.

That’s why you use an ad blocker on sites that are more ads than material.

Or you just avoid these sites, no content work looking at anyway

I recommend you download Adblock plus, but make sure you follow the instruction to turn it on in Safari. Go to ‘settings’ and choose ‘safari’ and then ‘content blockers’. Here you slide it on.

Please, can you elaborate a little your advice? Because for what this article says, the conclusion is Don’t Do It. Well, maybe if you are already in iOS 9, the damage is done, so go ahead and update. But not if you are in iOS 8.4. I´m I wrong? Tha’t what I would like to hear but nobody really gets clear about it.

I updated my ipad to ios 9.2 and it does work properly.

      • Paul

        01/07/2016 at 2:20 am

my 6s works on iOS 9.2 but nowhere as near as smooth as my iPad Air 2 on ios 8.4.1 or my 5s iphone on iOS 7.1.2

The things I have noticed on iOS 9.2 on my 6s which has the TSMC chip not the Samsung chip. Is that sometimes I unlock the phone and the the animation glitches and sticks, sometimes I go to answer the phone but the screen is black (blank) but the phone is still ringing but I cant answer it beauce there is no way to do so. Never had these problems with my 5s on iOS 7.1.2.

Scrolling presents a glitch then smooth and then if I do it fast up and down it’s smooth and then presents another glitch, I don’t get this at all with my older divices on older iOS as mentioned above.

Apps I found glitchy: ebay app again same app only 6s glitches, but on 5s and iPad Air 2 is smooth.

        Strava app same as above!

        Apple Mail same as above!

Safari doesn’t seem to scroll very well, to slow. I have found that chromeseemsmto be a much better browser and is about the only app that has smooth scrolling on my 6s.

Settings app some settings same as above with very minor glitches in some parts of scrolling again these scrolling animations are totally smooth on older iOS on older gadgets as mentioned above.

That said Im impressed with the 6s hardware but very disappointed in Apple with the iOS 9.2

I’m personally sticking with ios 8.4.1 on 5s. Apple has been so unreliable with the ios 9 series from the start. Don’t trust the company a lot nowadays. “It just works” no longer can be trusted – its a shame. Will wait a couple more months at least because I use my phone for my business. Upgrading to any ios 9 version is too much of a risk

    • Jun (@drsnowmon)

      12/19/2015 at 7:06 am

I couldn’t agree more. Apple is no longer reliable when it comes to software updates. The best thing to do is wait it out until you know it’s reliable or just NOT UPGRADE AT ALL when your current OS is working flawlessly. I had one of the worst experiences with iOS 8.3 I don’t even want to think about it, it was a nightmare….

So all the reasons not to install this are reasons that you could give for ANY UPDATE EVER? What a cop out.

What weak reasons to install a update, nothing but fear or just sheer lacking of understanding of the products or what fixes are good ones.

I find the update to be very glitchy on my iPhone 6s, very annoying indeed!

Scrolling is not smooth like on my iPad Air 2 with iOS 8.4.1

I am really disappointed in Apple with this update, my iPhone 5s is so much smoother on iOS 7.1.2 than my new 6s which is on iOS 9.2. I find this absolutely crazy but it’s true.

I like the phone 4K video camera and the 12mp camera plus the bigger 4.7 screen but Apple come on, can’t even sort out a smooth working iOS for such a great gadget.

    Very disappointed indeed

    Regards

    Paul

Has anyone had any luck on bug fixes for the 9.2 version? I downloaded it, and missed the window to downgrade :( Ever since “upgrading” my iPhone 5s has MAJOR touch screen problems. Most of the time I can’t access anything, the right edge of the screen RARELY works at all, and the screen will have freak outs that open random apps, browser pages, etc with no relief until I just turn the screen off. I have reset the phone once, but it didn’t restore properly so I am attempting again in sheer hopes it works..

Have had nothing but problems with my blue tooth/placing hands free calls on iPhone 6 since download of iOS 9.2. Frustrating to say the least! Keeps saying “call ended, call ended” when placing blue tooth calls…sometimes places the call & sometimes ends the call immediately after initiating call. Also, music automatically comes on randomly or after calls are ended even when it is not manually turned on. Voice automated calls frequently does not call the contact it is told to call…very glitchy. I have tried turing phone off & back on, reseting network settings… Download has caused nothing but trouble. PLEASE HELP…does anyone have information on how to fix the problems this download has caused?

I find it equally “silly” to either blindly go-with-the-program (designed to assist our dependence on cloud-rental of space and total reliance on a phone device rather than professional-use computer) or to refuse any updates solely “out of fear”. There is reality too, between blind faith and blind fear.

So I have another reason for not installing this. My life, archaic as it may be, is oriented around photography, and I don’t see “computer as a middleman” for serious photography, camera to web. The computer is the tool, just like a telephone (“distant voice”) is a tool for communication, first and foremost. (“Smart” is something else). So I do not use the cloud for anything other than syncing calendars and notes between laptop, desktop, and iPhone (all Apple).
I have nothing broken, so no reason to fix it, by introducing all sorts of new systems oriented towards the cloud. I live with my feet on the ground, no cloud-space rental, no need to see photos on small screens – I use a camera for photography, and a telephone for telephone calls. Simple. And it works for me. The update offers nothing but potential for further incessant efforts at sealing users into the cloud-oriented ecosystem which used to belong to us, but now we lemmings are just going along with “updates” which do not offer anything at all to some (many?) users.

Apple needs to clean house and get their act back together! Every update has issues and some bring back problems that others had already fixed. iPad Air was replaced after 8.01, then 8.15 brought back problems 8.13 fixed… Mail and Safari are still screwed up… Update they say… Why? To add more problems? MacBook still has problems after Mavericks to Yosemite update… “It will get a patch soon”… Where is it? It’s been almost a year now and the SD card reader is still not working after the update! Quality control and customer service went down the tubes when Steve passed away. Until they bring it back, I’m about done with Apple. Greed has over taken quality… If I’m going to deal with issues daily, there are a few other good products out there that will cost a lot less money. When the quality was there I didn’t mind spending the extra money but the last 2-3 years the phrase “because it just works” has become a thing of the past. So sad! :-(

What a long useless article. After reading, I haven’t got any information on if it’s worth updating to iOS 9.2 in iPhone4s. You could make it easier in just 2 words: don’t update. Unless you like to bla bla bla your readers.

I don’t understand why they keep coming up with these iOS updates. I still have the 7.1.2 and my phone works fine with it. Some of the iCloud and other features will no longer work until I do the update but I’m still afraid to do it. I’m sure I will have to eventually but I wish I could download 8 before I do the 9.
