Apple’s brand new iOS 8 update is here though it’s not the iOS 8.2 update. Instead, it’s a tiny iOS 8.1.2 update that delivers new bug fixes for iOS 8 problems. With Apple’s new iOS 8 update on the minds of iPhone and iPad users around the world, we want to walk you through some reasons why you might want to install the iOS 8.1.2 update today.

Several months ago, Apple rolled out its iOS 8.0 update for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. The update replaced the iOS 7 update from last year though unlike the iOS 7 update, it did not deliver massive design changes to Apple’s mobile products. Instead, the iOS 8 update built upon the foundation left behind by the iOS 7 update adding new features, enhancements and fixes for iOS 7 problems.

Apple’s iOS 8 update also delivered iOS 8 problems to iPhone and iPad users and over the past couple of months, Apple’s worked to fix those lingering issues. First, the company pushed out iOS 8.0.1. Then, Apple rolled out iOS 8.0.2. After a stint in the beta program, Apple pushed out its iOS 8.1 update that was chock full of fixes and introduced Apple Pay to iPhone 6 users.

iPhone 6 Plus Problems - 4

A few weeks ago, Apple released iOS 8.1.1 to tackle some of the ongoing issues and today, Apple replaced iOS 8.1.1 with its iOS 8.1.2 release. iOS 8.1.2, like iOS 8.1.1, is a smaller update, crafted to fix lingering iOS 8 problems. With the iOS 8.1.2 update now here, iPhone and iPad users must make a crucial decision about installing the update.

There are plenty of reasons to hold off on the iOS 8.1.2 update but as we’ll point out, some users might be better served installing the iOS 8.1.2 update right now on the day of its release. Here, we take a look at some reasons why you iPhone, iPad and iPod touch users might want to think about installing the iOS 8.1.2 update this very moment.

You Buy Ringtones

The iOS 8.1.2 change log lists several fixes but the most prominent one is a fix for ringtones bought through the iTunes Store. It appears that ringtones bought through Apple’s online marketplace vanished without a trace for no apparent reason. The iOS 8.1.2 patches this issue up and should ensure that it will not happen again.

If you buy ringtones from Apple on a regular basis, you probably want to install the iOS 8.1.2 update right now. Those of you who had ringtones go missing can get them back by heading over to iTunes’ website.

You’re Dealing With iOS 8 Problems

If you’re dealing with iOS 8.1.1 problems, iOS 8.1 problems or problems on any of the older versions of iOS 8, you might want to think about installing Apple’s latest update.

iOS 8.1.1 problems continue to plague many iPhone and iPad users though as we pointed out in our reviews, the software is the most stable version of iOS 8. That doesn’t mean that there aren’t problems though. Those of you that have been unable to find a temporary or permanent fix for your woes should think about installing the iOS 8.1.2 update right now.

iPhone 6 Review - 5

It’s probably not going to solve every single lingering iOS 8 problem but there is a good chance it’s going to tackle a number of other problems outside of that ringtone issue. So, if you’re having problems in iOS 8.1.1, iOS 8.1 or iOS 8.0, it’s probably worth a download today.

It’s worth mentioning that we haven’t run into any major issues with the iOS 8.1.2 update, at least not yet. That doesn’t mean that there aren’t bugs on board but it does mean that there probably aren’t any huge issues at work. If you’re struggling, it’s worth a shot.

You Want to Improve Performance

If your performance has been struggling on iOS 8.1.1 or below, it’s worth considering a move up to iOS 8.1.2.

Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, battery life, cellular data, and overall speed are often affected negatively by iOS updates. Complaints about these features pop up every single time Apple releases a new update and we’ve seen people struggling on iOS 8.1.1. If you are one of those people, it might be worth the upgrade to iOS 8.1.2 today. Improvements may not be listed on the change log but it’s possible that this new update will help work out the kinks.

iPhone 6 Review - 7

We’ve seen a small, but noticeable improvement to the speed on the iPhone 5. iOS 8.1.1 was slow and iOS 8.1.2 seems to be a little bit faster in the early goings. This was not listed on the iOS 8.1.2 change log, perhaps, because it wasn’t intentional. Give iOS 8.1.2 a shot today if your performance is hurting on the iPhone or iPad.

You’ve Prepared

If you’re prepared for the iOS 8.1.2 release date, and you’re ready to make the move, go ahead and install the iOS 8.1.2 update. There are a number of steps that we think iPhone and iPad users should take ahead of its release date and if you’ve taken them all, there’s really nothing else you can do besides look for initial feedback about the upgrade.

You Don’t Care About Jailbreaking & Want the Latest

If you don’t care about jailbreaking your iPhone or iPad, and you’re fine with installing on day one, you can go ahead and make the move.

Jailbreaking is not for everyone and many iPhone and iPad users simply want the latest software from Apple. If getting bumped up to the latest software sounds more appealing than going through the jailbreak process, you’re going to be alright updating to the iOS 8.1.2 update today on its first day of availability for iPhone and iPad.

iPhone 6 Review - Colors

For those that do want to jailbreak their iPhone or iPad on iOS 8.1.2, it’s possible that we may not see another reason until the arrival of iOS 8.2. It’s also possible that we’ll see developers release one for iOS 8.1.2. It’s not clear. Point is, if you don’t care and you want to get the latest fixes on board, now might be a good time to move.
