Apple’s new iPad is finally official in all its detailed glory. The upgrades weren’t many, but that Retina Display sure is gorgeous.

While it seems like everyone can’t wait to give Apple their money for this new tablet, I know there are some of you out there thinking: Pfft, the new iPad ain’t all that. Perhaps it’s too big and heavy for you, or you were hoping for a magic wand/pen, or it’s way out of your price range.

Whatever your reason for passing up the new iPad, don’t despair of ever finding the right tablet. There’s a world of decent choices out there now. Here are five alternatives that scratch a particular itch Apple doesn’t.

Kindle Fire

At $199, the Kindle Fire is $300 less than the least expensive iPad. It doesn't have all the same bells and whistles due to the low price, but not everyone needs cameras and Bluetooth and HDMI out. Plus, at 7 inches it can more easily fit in a coat pocket or purse.
