5 Thoughts on the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 U.S. Release Date

Published

on

The Samsung Galaxy Note 2, one of the most anticipated devices left in 2012, will be touching down in the United States in just a few short days. And once it does, it will be sending the original Galaxy Note, one of the bigger smartphone successes of 2011 and 2012 off into the sunset.

Back in September, Samsung sent out invites for an event set for October in New York City, an event that we now know to be the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 launch event in the U.S.. And it’s there that we were likely going to learn all the details about the Galaxy Note 2 releases on the five carriers in the United States.

The Galaxy Note 2 U.S. release date debacle isn’t surprising. But something needs to give.

Oddly enough, we already know bits and pieces about the Galaxy Note 2’s debut in the United States, not thanks to leaks, but thanks to official information that, in my opinion, already makes the event a waste of time.

Really U.S. Cellular?

All the way back in September, U.S. Cellular decided to launch a pre-order for the Samsung Galaxy Note 2, telling the media and customers alike that the device would ship in October. The carrier even attached a price to the Galaxy Note 2, $299.99.

Oddly enough, it still hasn’t released any sort of information about the release date, even as we approach the end of October. Even more odd is that none of the other carriers have even offered a pre-order for the Galaxy Note 2. Not AT&T, not T-Mobile, not Sprint, no Verizon.

It was confusing to say the least.

Really Sprint?

And so here we were, thinking that Samsung and the five U.S. carriers – AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, Verizon and U.S. Cellular – would reveal their Galaxy Note 2 release dates on October 24th. And then, earlier this week, Sprint announced that it would be carrying the Galaxy Note 2 starting on October 25th for $299.99. The announcement, besides the date and price, was light on details.

It did not say how many variants it would be offering or whether the $299.99 price tag applied to the 16GB model like we assume.

So, now, oddly enough, we have one of five release dates for the Galaxy Note 2. Talk about a jumbled mess.

Really AT&T and T-Mobile?

On October 10th, T-Mobile announced the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 but provided zero details. Then, earlier this week, it put the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 up on its website with the words “Coming Soon” written next to it. AT&T also announced the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 but provided exactly zero details about its release date or pricing.

All of this came after Samsung confirmed the device for all five carriers in the United States rendering both announcements entirely useless.

So, a bit of advice. If you’re going to issue a press release for a device and not include pertinent information like pricing and release date, at least do it for a device that hasn’t been confirmed for your network just yet. And two, if you’re going to confirm a device for the second time, add in information like pricing and a release date.

It makes things way less confusing.

Verizon Did It Right

Oddly enough, Verizon, the carrier who has fouled up more than a few launches in its day, has done everything right with the Galaxy Note 2 release. It didn’t offer up a ridiculously vague and lengthy pre-order. And it didn’t issue a useless announcement.

Instead, it’s doing what these carriers all should have done. Stay quiet until it has something of use to share with potential customers.

Tired

I don’t want to know that your device is launching in the “coming weeks.” I don’t want to hear about pricing details at a future date. I don’t want a carrier to completely deflate an event by announcing pricing and release date early like Sprint did with the Galaxy Note 2. I want to look forward to these events, I want them to mean something.

Consumers still have no idea when the Galaxy Note 2 will arrive on four U.S. carriers.

These events aren’t just fun and games, they are the platform on which to sell the product. So instead of giving customers release dates and pricing just about everywhere else but the event, try doing it at the event itself. I think the results would be eye-opening for the companies involved.

I totally agree. I called T-Mobile today and inquired about the note II and unfortunately, the lady had zero info. She read out everything she had been provided with, but none of it was helpful in regards to price and release date.

Precisely! The last thing carriers should be doing is annoying their customers.

yeah that is exactly what they need to do… the pending date and price announcments are ridiculous… makes me consider switching from T-mobile to ATT to get the HTC One X+ which is also going to be a quadcore btw….

Everyone has their opinon i guess. I think Sprint did it right they waited until they had a date and a price to give their customers and then they dropped a press release about availablity date and price. I know when and where i can get my Note 2 and i will have one on the 25th.

Remember we do not live in or anywhere near a perfect world and we do not get what we want when we want it. These companies produce, sell and distribute awesome devices with technology that 20 years ago were not even thought of, I remember when i had to stand in the kitchen with a 10 foot cord attached to the only phone in the house that i could talk on. now the things i can do with my phone are so amazing and numerous i dont even want to attempt to list them all.

I know for some of the younger readers out there this doesnt ring home (pun intended) but some of you older folks know exactly what im talking about.

Appreciate what these devices and technology can do for us.

    Peace

I’m sure that the one who write this is completely favoring verizon carrier. We all know that there is no info can be very accurate before that Oct24th event.
If you say US cellular and sprint did it wrong giving info by guessing, it’s acceptable since US cellular taking order without knowing the release date and sprint guess the release date might be oct25th and no legitimate citation or source to confirm when and where samsung announce about that.
But At&t didn’t announce anything about Galaxy note 2 except that they give info about they will offer Galaxy note 2 for sure. Verizon announce that too.

Verizon is doing wrong, current Verizon customers with an old unlimited plan cannot keep their plan if they buy the Note 2.

Even if it is off by a week or two, I like having a date to help make planning whether it is good to wait or just get what’s out there already. How many times have we heard about rumored iphones coming out without any real timeline. Give me a “month end” date anytime. It is much better than “soon” I can wait on the details. Good job sprint.

Got my Galaxy Note 2 on October 24th at Sprint. Love it, even though it is only 16gig and you CANNOT move apps to the SD card without rooting it because of Jelly Bean. And it does not have multitasking yet. That will come out in December. I LOVE THIS DEVICE! Bye bye iPhone!
