7 Things to Know About the March Nexus 5X Android 7.1.1 Update

Published

on

Today we want to take a look at the most important things you need to know about the Nexus 5X Android 7.1.1 Nougat update and the new March Nexus 5X Android 7.1.1 build.

Last year, Google released an Android 7.1 Developer Preview, a beta for Nexus devices. The beta showcased some of the update’s features and it let select Nexus users test the update’s performance ahead of the final release.

The company promised an Android 7.1 release for Nexus devices in December and the company made good on that promise.

In the months since the release, Google’s rolled out new versions of Android 7.1.1 Nougat including a brand new March Android 7.1.1 build that brings security patches and, according to some Nexus 5x users, frustrating problems.

The March Nexus 5X Android 7.1.1 build is a security update that delivers some important patches to the former flagship. It’s small but it’s an important release for the Nexus 5X and Google’s stable of Nexus and Pixel devices.

This roundup takes a look at the March Nexus 5X Android 7.1.1 Nougat build, Nexus 5X Android 7.1.1 problems plaguing users on the old and new Android 7.1.1 build, a look at what’s officially coming after the Android 7.1.1 Nougat update, and some tips that might help you.

We’ll continue to update this with new information so check back for regular updates as we cruise through the month.

March Nexus 5X Android 7.1.1 Update: Impressions

March Nexus 5X Android 7.1.1 Update: Impressions

Google's March Nexus 5X Android 7.1.1 build is much smaller than the original Android 7.1.1 update and it doesn't bring any new features to the device. That said, it could also have a positive or negative impact on your device's performance and that's why we're taking a close look at it today.

We've spent just about a day with the new Nexus 5X Android 7.1.1 update and we want to share some quick first impressions of the software.

Battery life appears to be holding up. We haven't noticed any weird battery drain on our Nexus 5X, at least not yet.

If you start experiencing issues with battery life, and you might, know that it sometimes takes battery life a couple of days to settle in. If problems persist beyond two days, you'll need to take action.

We haven't run into any problems with our device's connectivity. We've tested the Nexus 5X and its new Android 7.1.1 Nougat build with several ISPs, routers and Bluetooth devices. Our connections remain strong and fast.

We haven't experienced any random reboots or lockups/freezes/crashes and we haven't seen any UI lag when navigating around the home screen, apps and folders. Animations and transitions are snappy and fluid. It feels like the February version of Android 7.1.1.

The March Nexus 5X Android 7.1.1 Nougat update is performing well on our device. We recommend it for most users, particularly those who value their security.

If you're feeling leery, track down a second or third opinion before installing the update on your device.

Had no issues with upgrading to Nougat on my Nexus 5X (Verizon) yesterday – 6 Oct. Anguish in first several pages not necessary in my experience. Phone and service and WiFi (etc.) all seem OK.

My fingerprint reader has suddenly stopped working. Don’t know if it is related, but this seems suspicious. Anyone have any ideas for me?

Finger printer sometimes collide with other apps, try deleting recently installed apps and rebooting device. For me, mine started working as soon as I deleted certain apps.

I found that my battery was not lasting nearly as many hours as it used it. Noticed immediately; from average 13 hours to about 8.

Same issue on mine too. And it started pretty abruptly. Getting an air of around 2 hours now, which used to be 3- 3 1/2 hrs

Many of us got dead phones after the update, usually from 2015 models. So if it is out of warranty wait until google says something. It might have been a bad OTA during the release but some have posted from a couple of weeks ago when they decided to update. After the flash and reboot, the screen is blank and will not turn back on, for others it goes into a boot loop and can not be recovered except for a new motherboard.

This happened to mine. Phone bricked a fee weeks after upgrade never to come to life again. While on a call with Google I was transferred to LG who told me that they cover it under warranty for 18 months from date of manufacture. Mine is currently out for repair.

This is happening A BUNCH!!!! Many 5x phones are turning into a paper weight… I was advised by my son, who is now using a back-up phone due to his 5x completely gone… AND is currently fighting with LG and Verizon because as soon as the update downloaded, it fried!!!

Update to my last posting, LG and Verizon will reimburse for the loss of the phone (in my sons case) if the phone was purchased with a credit card. Apparently, if the phone was beyond its year of Warranty, the credit card purchase is a type of ‘Warranty’…
But, this is what my son is telling me. He might have swallowed his pride on the loss, and simply upgraded a (14 month) old phone.

I am finding it Pathetic that we are paying out $500 a year to be forced into a mandatory “upgrade” once a phone developer decides to render our working product USELESS.

Maybe we should leave cars on the side of the road once the gas tank goes empty, and blame it on the dealerships!!!!

Have been experiencing lagging in my Nexus 5X after the update. The UI seems to get jammed. Also the camera loading takes a while

I have not received any OTA update for android 7 on my Nexus 5x! Is it normal?
Another question! Does the android 7 causes Bootloop on Nexus 5x?

My battery life has been terrible with the first release of Nougat 7.0. I just updated to the latest update and the battery life boosted to double the amount. 75% showing 1 day and 5hrs of usage.

So all the article here is doing is complaining about the 7.0 update but it doesn’t explain how to bypass it to update to 7.1?

    Steve
I just did the 7.1.1 upgrade on my Nexus 5x and it cycles through the start up look over and over. I have shut it down after trying the hard re-set numerous times. Does anyone have any ideas on a fix. Seeing I cant get the phone to open the home page before going through the start up mode again i’m not sure what to do next. HELP

I still haven’t received the 7.1.1 OTA update for my 5X. I’m still on 7.0. Is this an issue with my phone or is Google still in the process of rolling it out?

7.1.1 has broken Bluetooth connectivity with many people with certain types of car head units.
My Joying head unit repeatedly connects and disconnects now.

    This is a KNOWN issue.

Nexus 5Xs are shutting down like crazy. Users unable to power back up. Google accepting No responsibility or accountability for problem since LG made cells. LG wants more money to fix my cell due to 2 months out of warranty. F**k Google and LG.

The 7.1.1 update over the weekend created the infamous bootloop issue for my 5x aka turned my phone into a brick. I called Google and after confirming I had indeed updated the phone to 7.1.1 they agreed to send me another 5x (using a warranty exception as my phone is more than 12 months old) and I am to send back my old phone. They did say that if I did not update to 7.1.1 then I would need to call LG. Also, if they find that the returned phone was not updated, they will send it back to me. Note: As a long time Nexus addict I usually wait to install updates (obviously I didn’t this time) as an OS update also crashed my Nexus4 some years ago now. Google also replaced that phone.

I may have had something similar happen. My 5X went into bootloop the afternoon following an update to 7.1.1 the night before. No idea what happened or if it is related. I ended up calling google and getting a similar warranty exception and have just received a refurb 5X. But now I am afraid to reupdate to 7.1.1. Have any of you heard anything about it being safe to update to 7.1.1? Or should I just wait till 7.1.2 to update?

In the previous upgrade, I had a new way to listen to my VM. Before it was hit or miss. Noticed after this upgrade that now the VM feature no longer works at all. Just gives me a “loading” notice. Bummer, I liked the new feature a lot. Also, had a few times when trying to answer my phone the new slide up feature for answering is unresponsive, I cannot answer a call!!
Plus, had a few incidences when leaving a call — phone totally freezes up — have to reboot. Any one else having these issues?
