BBC Sees UMPCs on the Rise in 2008

- Warner Crocker

My predictions notwithstanding, the BBC sees 2008 as a year that Ultra-Mobile PCs will be on the rise. Of course if you read the article you’ll see that the BBC is focusing on the Asus Eee PC, which some don’t quite see as fitting into what we have been calling UMPCs. I’ll stand by my prediction, and I’ll add this. I do think that small, mobile devices, like the Asus Eee PC will be a big part of the story in 2008 (I predicted that too.) And much of what we will hear about those devices will fall under the label ultra-mobile. But unless jkkmobile goes into mass production of Eee PCs with touchscreens, I still think the concept we know now as the UMPC will begin to fade in 2008.

As if to prove the point, note that CNet Asia is calling the Asus Eee PC the top of its Top 5 UMPCs.

You mean fading like the tablet pcs have been fading all these years? ;)

How about the Asus Eee plus a Bamboo Tablet? Equals 2 x 7" 'screens'! Too late for me, I've already bought a U810.
