CES 2008: Planon PrintStik

- Matt Faulkner

While at CES, Warner and I stopped by the Planon booth over in the Sands.  This year they brought with them a new product to CES and that product is called the PrintStik.  The PrintStik is a VERY small mobile printer.  They gave us a demo of the printer working over bluetooth and both of us were amazed.  Warner walked away from the booth ready to purchase one.  Watch the video and check out why:

I will say, it is a tad bit slow on the print. Speed comparison to some other models would be nice =D

It's funny really. I'm sure that it has a role for some people, but I just can't get past the whole thermal paper aspect. It's just too 1990s for me. Very amusing.

Great design, looks cool and lightweight, but as the other posters said, limited usability. You can't use it to print out contracts which have to be signed, since the thermal printing will fade over time, making your contract void. Still, might be a boon for some folks. They need to make an inkjet that size, WITHOUT the paper installed (feed it like one of those stick scanners.)

It's taken me a week to remember the name of a similar printer that's on the market today.
Pentax makes a VERY similar printer called a Pocketjet. So Warner, you may want to check them out as they have been around for years and work fairly well.
