What better way to get to know a piece of new technology than to find out what a non-techie person thinks, right? That is exactly what we aimed for in this InkShow video review featuring my wife, Kathi, and the Lenovo U110.

Kathi has been using the Lenovo U110 Ultra-Portable on and off for the past several weeks, and offers up some surprising insight. In addition, she also has some very interesting things to say about Tablet PCs and why she doesn't want one. The most surprising thing she told me: if the U110 were a Tablet PC, she wouldn't want it. Needless to say, Microsoft and OEMs need to watch this video.

 Lenovo created quite a stir the past several weeks with the ultra-thin, 2.9 lb X300 notebook.

After visiting the Apple store last week, I would have purchased the MacBook Air had I had the money. I'm glad I waited until I got my hands on the X300. WOW!! I'm amazed every time I pick up the X300 at how light and well balanced it is. The boot speed and overall speed has been pretty impressive so far, too. In my opinion, the extra features like 2 more USB slots, support for 2 batteries, wireless USB, and integrated WWAN make this a no-brainer for the road warrior . The only thing missing, of course, is the Tablet PC functionality.

Aero Glass is certainly one of the sexier features of Windows Vista with all of the eye candy and bells and whistles. One of the big bells that gets rung is the Window Flip. You’ve seen the feature before. You line up all of your open windows in a diagonal line from an icon on the taskbar or pressing the Windows and Tab Keys, and you scroll through them picking the one you want. You can even have video running in one of the windows.

Well there has been lots of speculation on what systems this feature will run on or not and if computers with integrated graphics will be able to handle this and some other media features. I thought I’d give it a try with the Lenovo Thinkpad X60 Tablet PC that I’m trying out. The Lenovo contains an integrated graphics solution and sure enough the Vista Flip works as advertised as you can see in this short Inkshow. Also note, I was able to produce a copy of this Inkshow in Windows Movie Maker. So, at least on this integrated graphics platform it can work.

Well, the Lenovo ThinkPad X60 Tablet PC InkShows just keep on coming!

In this installment, Dennis Rice takes a look at the MultiTouch XGA / Outdoor screen option, and also the Ultrabase mobile docking solution.  The X60 Tablet PC is very much a unique device, and these two options are a couple of very strong points to consider.

It was a real challenge for me to do a good representation of how the touch screen functionality works, so please bear with the quality on this one a bit, but I think you will get a good idea of how well this works if this is an option you are considering for your next Tablet PC purchase.  What you see on camera and what you see in realtime are a bit different (with things like screen brightness and outdoor viewing, probably due to camera angle), but I think you will get the idea.  I also really like the mobile docking solution “Ultrabase”, and go over it in pretty good detail as well.  I imagine most of the GottaBeMobile crew will own one soon.

If it feels like a Lenovo Thinkpad Tablet PC week here at GottaBeMobile, well that might be accurate. To be honest, it is tough not to like this new Tablet PC, and I have to say, I’m very grateful for the opportunity I have had this last week to give it a once over and share some of my thoughts with you.

So, let’s take a look at the Thinkpad X60 Tablet PC. A couple of notes: I was so excited putting the InkShow together that I goofed on the screen resolution options that are available when making the recording. Here they are:

XGA = 1024x768
XGA / Multitouch / Outdoor = 1024x768 (upgrade price of $200)
SXGA+ = 1400x1050 (upgrade price of $50)

On pricing, note that Lenovo will have three different options available with launch today, November 14, ranging from $1799 to $2399. On November 28 you will be able to configure your order to your liking from an array of options with a base price of $1699 (one year warranty as opposed to three.)

Dell has taken quite a few hits in recent memory, many of their own making, some when their products just happen to spontaneously catch on fire. So how do you put out those fires? (PR-wise.) Start a blog. Good idea, but the early reviews don’t speak to kindly of the blog bucket brigade action so far. Of course when one of the blog posts begins with the headline, Real People Are Here and We’re Listening, you can sense a smidgen of defensiveness.

Here’s a hint for Dell. Produce and market a Tablet PC and a UMPC/Origami. It might not put out any fires, but at this point, it could certainly change the conversation.

In this video review, I take an in-depth look at the Lenovo X41 Tablet PC, the pen, the batteries, docking station, and the carrying case.

I’ve used quite a few Tablet PCs over the past 3 years, and the Lenovo remains my favorite convertible for many reasons that I cover in the video. The overall experience of the X41, for me, outweighs the better performing convertible tablet pcs out there. I look forward to what Lenovo does with the next version of this tablet and other tablet pcs they come out with.

In a couple of instances, I refer to some things on the screen when the video camera was zoomed too tightly to capture it. My apologies.
