It’s podcast time again at GBM, and in GBM Podcast #41, Warner Crocker and Sierra Modro cover a range of topics and products in the Tablet PC and UMPC scapes. In addition, they discuss what’s on their respective Christmas gadget wish lists and get the conversation going about CES2008 and the Tablet PC and UMPC Community Meetup and talk a bit about Warner’s 3rd Annual Life on the Wicked Stage Ink Blot Awards. Of course the trick to this edition of the GBM Podcast is finding out if Warner’s voice will hold out since he’s been suffering from laryngitis. We’re also proud and thrilled to announce that TechSmith is back as our GBM Podcast sponsor. As you probably know, (we certainly don’t keep this a secret), TechSmith has been our GBM InkShow Sponsor for some time now. TechSmith produces SnagIt and Camtasia Studio and other great products that all of the GBM Team members use routinely in their work and play. TechSmith’s original sponsorship covered both the video InkShows and our podcasts, then for a time, it was just the video InkShows. And once again, TechSmith is sponsoring both GBM InkShows and GBM Podcasts. We’re grateful and we hope you are to. Without sponsors, like TechSmith, we wouldn’t be able to do the fun work we do here at GottaBeMobile.com. Thanks, again, TechSmith! Here are the show notes:

Winter is fast approaching and a great way to prepare for the cold days ahead is to store up some GottaBeMobile.com InkShows, Shortcuts, an Podcasts for those cold and snowy days when you just want to sit bundled up by a warm fire. November was a month full of GBM video and audio action, so you’re got lots to choose from. We covered the gamut from CradlePoint Technology’s Celluar Router to a show down on the OQO Model 02 between an SSD drive and a Hard Drive. We took a look at the Vye S37, and Warner’s wife got into the action with a look at the Asus Eee PC. The Podcasts kept coming even if the “Old Man” of the team kept complaining, and Rob took some good looks at the Amazon Kindle in GBM Shortcuts. So check out the November lineup and let us know your comments.

Sometimes things can get down right spooky in the Tabletscape and Matt Faulkner and I spend this week’s GBM Podcast (that’s GBM Podcast #38 for those who are counting) talking about a number of developments, as well as a few tricks and a few treats. So, while you may be waiting to dish out your Halloween treats to your local ghosts and goblins, give GBM Podcast #38 a listen.
Are you waiting about news from Dell? Well, if you’re a Purdue student or educator maybe you got to take a sneak peak. Wonder what is going on in UMPC land? Chippy seems to be covering all the news on UMPC TV (and creating a fashion faux pas as well.) Well Asus’s R2E UMPC be a hit? Is Apple going to finally produce a Tablet PC? Who knows, but we sure love to speculate, especially with all the news that’s fit to touch bouncing around these days. We even talk a little football, just for fun.

We’re all excited on the GBM Team with the new addition of Sierra Modro to the wacky gang of contributors here. So, in GBM Podcast #37, we take the opportunity to find out more about Sierra, her passions for Tablet PCs and mobile technology, and generally introduce the newest GBMer to all of those out there in GBM Podcast land.
In addition to finding out more about Sierra, (like while getting Sierra unplugged probably won’t ever happen) we spend some time talking about the Nokia N810, Sierra’s use of the HP 2710p, Microsoft’s marketing misfires; and, on the cusp of the Tablet PCs 5 year birthday, we look at what has been and what we’d like to see.
As I say many times in the Podcast, I’m thrilled that Sierra is a part of the team and I’m looking very much forward to all the great things she’ll be contributing in the future. And don’t forget, Sierra takes requests!

Managing security in a mobile world can be a challenging problem. That is why we've devoted a feature series to it, called GottaBeSecure. Terry Bradley has been writing that series for us, and in this podcast, we talk about various security issues, as well as get to know Terry a little more. Enjoy! Get two veteran Tablet PC guys together and you know what happens: they talk about the good 'ole days when folks used to be able to go in to a store and at least demo one or two Tablet PCs. Nowadays, one can be hard-pressed to find a single tablet pc in a retail store. Join Warner and I as we talk about demoing Tablet PCs, Vista SP1, what we'd like to see innovation wise in future Tablet PCs, mobile security, and Microsoft's Surface technology. Show Notes:

As we head into autumn, September was quite a month for GottaBeMobile Inkshow, Podcast, and Shortcut action. In the GottaBeMobile.com Podcast #34, Warner and I chat about quite a few things that have been running around the Internet for the past week. Before we get into that though, we talk about the new upgrades that just happened in the GBM Forums. We have our thoughts on the new style and some of the new features that were included in this upgrade. After that, we discuss the MID's that were released during this past week at the Intel Conference. MIDs are going to play a big role in the future of 'mobile' technology and we share our thoughts - the good and the bad. Speaking of the future of 'mobile', Warner and I also talk about Vista and it being a platform for a mobile computer. There are some issues that we all know, but we stick with it and with SP1 right around the corner (Beta released the day of the Podcast) how will that change things?? Show Notes for this episode: So have a listen, tell us what you think and enjoy the show, because we always enjoy putting them together for all of you!! We’re busy getting ready for the GBM Meetup in Colorado Springs on Saturday, September 8, but Rob Bushway and I found time to do another GBM podcast this week, and of course GBM Podcast #32 contains lots of info about the Meetup. In addition we also talk about the new Fujitsu T2010 Tablet PC that has everyone talking. It will be making its GBM debut at the Meetup, along with more Tablet PCs and UMPCs than you can cut through with a power saw. We also discuss some changes happening at GBM and look forward to Terry Bradley’s new reporting on Mobile Security.
But the heart of this week’s podcast has to do with Tablet PC applications, or the lack thereof in some cases. We talk about InkSeine, and practically beg Microsoft to release this amazing looking Ink Search tool to users. Rob and Warner also pull out their toolboxes and talk about their favorites applications and must haves, but unfortunately the list doesn’t change all that much, and their are too few tools in the box. You can check out Warner’s list of Must Have Tablet PC Apps here, and I’m not sure Rob has ever done a post about what he carries in his toolkit, but if you listen to the show you'll find out all about it. Part of being in a community is getting together with readers, listeners, watchers and friends, so in a couple of weeks, we're doing just that - GottaBeMobile.com reader meetup. In this Podcast, Warner, no, I mean Rob - well it really is Warner (you'll figure it out when you listen...) talk about the fun times in store for everybody in Colorado Springs at the meet-up. Should be nice to see all the GBM Team members, well everybody that can make it but Hugo, since he'll still be on vacation - he's a little far anyway's... Speaking of Hugo, he's been found and sent some answers to Rob, we discuss the Shift a little more during this Podcast, but the most important hardware related discussion on the show is about Acer buying out Gateway.

Being mobile relies on several factors, one of the most important being connectivity. If you can’t be connected and get to your data or to the web, what’s the point? In GBM Podcast #30 we talk about several mobile connectivity issues and how they may or may not be shifting. And speaking of shifting, yeah, we spend some time being “Wowed” by The HTC Shift, and Hugo’s InkShow of the game changing device. That’s right. I said game changing. Simply because I think the dual OS will appeal to many. But is there a catch? Will the Broadcom/Qualcomm legal ranglings delay the US debut of the HTC Shift? If not, will it be locked to a specific carrier? Or do we just have to wait for Google’s recent play in the FCC 700MHz auction to offer us unrestricted mobility with broadband?
Oh, yeah, and guess what? This is Matt Faulkner’s debut as a part of the GBM Podcasting team. He calls it his “virgin podcast” but we won’t go there. We had lots of fun putting it together and hope you have lots of fun listening to it.

This is the first time that Hugo and I have gotten together on a podcast and we certainly enjoyed ourselves. Hugo has got one serious Tablet PC addiction, and we go over the Fujitsu U1010 and T2010 that he's trying out, and why he's taking the R400 on his two month vacation instead of his beloved OQO Model 02. By the way, we listened to your feedback and did a lot of editing to try and balance the audio out a bit better, silence out the coughs, etc. Let us know if we are getting closer. If anything, I may be a tad soft. Your feedback is very important. We'll be taking a look at the other feedback and will try to address those as we move forward. At GBM, we strive to be strategic in the content we deliver. We want to
maximize the time we have to deliver content that is meaningful, entertaining, and
impacts your mobile life. In April, we resumed production of our weekly podcast and are approaching episode #30 within the next couple of weeks. We want to continue to improve everything we deliver on GBM. Along those lines, whether you are a podcast listener or not, we want to hear from you about them: If you have listened to our podcasts, do you enjoy them? Do you find them informative? Are they entertaining and worth your 45 minutes? Do you like the current rotating host format? How could we improve the podcast ? If you have not listened to them or subscribed, what kind of content would interest you? Give us whatever feedback you want and be honest ( we've got thick skin ) - it is the only way we can get better and deliver content to you that is both informative and entertaining.

Mobile crimestoppers, mobile heating solutions, and some discussions of handcuffs, shirtcuffs weave in and out of this week’s GBM Podcast #27. Featuring Dennis Rice and Warner Crocker, the show covers a range of topics in the news and from the GBM Forums including how to catch a thief with a UMPC, how to use your mobile device to keep warm, a new utility that lets you roll up your windows, and for good measure, we talk about Vista SP1 (is there one?) and all the chatter about Windows 7 (did you know that Vista was Windows 6?)
We also talk a bit about the GBM group on Facebook, and if you haven’t joined, you might want to check it out. Come roll up your shirtsleeves (or pull out those handcuffs if you like) and join in the fun.

People get passionate about their mobile devices, no doubt about that. And nobody gets more passionate than a couple of GBM Team members talking about Tablet PCs, UMPCs, and other mobile devices. In this week’s edition of the GBM Podcast, Warner Crocker and Hugo Ortega toss out some passionate conversation for some passionate listeners, (along with a smidgen of reason tossed in for good measure). It may not be as pretty as a passion flower, but it is probably more fun.
In GBM Podcast #25 we talk about the news and expectations for Vista SP1, the OneNote Web Exporter Powertoy, the Raon Digital Everun, Urdu Calligraphy, Shakespeare, and getting stuck in traffic among other topics (including a little bit about the iPhone here and there) Come join the fun, and bring your passion with you.

So much people news this week! New Microsoft Tablet PC MVP's and a new Podcast era begins at GBM, and of course, Tablet PC and UMPC discussions. In this weeks segment, GottaBeMobile site owners, friends and compadres Dennis Rice and Rob Bushway chat it up about all the happenings, but also give some background on where it all began, and some history of Tablet PC communities and experiences. Oh, and by the way, we also spend a little time talking about Tablets and UMPC's! This week marks the first of a news series of Podcasts for the GBM team as we break out this process into a new content section. Keep an eye on this process folks, we are gonna shake it up a bit with more team members being involved, the occasional guest, possibly some video blogcasting (shhh Dennis - that was a secret we are working on - Oops, sorry, never mind folks). It should be interesting to see and hear what Team GBM can come up with in the future! We are working on a new name for our Podcast, so send forth your suggestions! News items this week: Forums Discussion: Main Topic this week: Download or listen to the Audio Inkshow Here (45mb, 49:46, mp3 format) or you can subscribe to our Audio Inkshows in iTunes. Hope you enjoy the show. Stay tuned next week for more Podcasting fun with GottaBeMobile!
