I have been going over the TabletKiosk G840XT for a while now and have been pretty happy with what I have seen so far!. The unit still feels really light for a rugged unit, that's for sure! I didn't think I would like the 'number pad' at first, but after having it on the unit, it's a nice addition. This InkShow is Part 1 of 2. I needed to make sure I had a few shots of the device before I started to beat it up and break it right :)
In this InkShow I take the G840XT for an spin looking mostly at the software. I add a couple of comments on the exterior that I didn't mention in the Shortcut I filmed a couple of weeks ago. I go over some of the software that is specific to the machine and I also take it out on a quick GPS test.

Slate Tablet PCs aren’t for everyone. Or at least that’s what the market seems to think, which is why the market is overwhelmingly populated with convertible Tablet PCs. But TabletKiosk is a big believer in the slate Tablet PC and the Sahara i440D certainly proves that they know what they are doing. I’ve never been a slate Tablet PC user due to how I work. But getting a chance to spend a couple of weeks with the Sahara i440D has opened my eyes up to the possibility for some point in the future.

The availability of my videos are often subject to lighting, i.e. the lighting God wishes to bless upon the front right-side corner of my home between the hours of 8:00am and 11:30am every morning. This is the side of my house setup to shoot videos, and these are the hours that natural lighting render this possible. The dilemma this week however was that due to catastrophic winds and terrible amounts of rain there was no sun on the that side of my home. Only clouds. No matter what I have tried there are no lights, and no reflectors worth spending money on, that will improve this. Today however after much deliberation I took what was a healthy (dark) video which I shot five days ago and I decided to hit erase! I then took advantage of a window of light (quite literally) in order to shoot yet another GBM InkShow! This time showcasing the TabletKiosk Sahara i440D.
The i440D captured lots of attention back at CES Las Vegas earlier this year and has even be en reviewed by one of our GBM frequenters Steve S. It is a device promising lots via its Dual mode Active Digitizer Pen and 4-wire resistive Touchscreen combo; with its internal SATA and external SATA capabilities; with its ability to accept up to 3Gb of RAM, and more. In this video I cover off several features and address some of the questions folks have been asking regarding this device. So if you're in the mood for something other than UMPC different, watch this video as TabletKiosk might be the right company to put on your radar!
What's covered in the video:
-
Ports, Slots and RAM
-
"Wake on swipe"
-
Duo mode: "Touch mode", "Pen mode"
-
Internal Specifications
-
Aero Glass and DreamScene!
-
Heat???
-
Media playback and MCE!
-
Powered VESA mount
-
Black is the new black! (Apple killed white! IMHO)
-
Conclusion (I failed to mention battery life but you can expect closer to 4hrs on the standard battery than most devices out there)
Watch or download the High Res version (29:26 minutes, 225mb, Windows Media streaming or direct download)

The GottaBeMobile crew sat down with Gail Levy to take a look at some of the new releases in the TabletKiosk line. We got a peak at the new Sahara i440 slate Tablet PC ( see specs ). There are also lots of new accessories we played with, one being a new bump case for the eo i7209 and i7210. There is another new case we saw for the eo i7209 and i7210 that is a beautifully crafted leather case/stand that has a really clean look when on the device.
Another machine featured in the InkShow is the new TuffTab eo 7112XT - a new ruggedized UMPC that will be hitting the market sometime early February.

The TabletKiosk eo i7210 Ultra-Mobile PC returns in a real life run through!
Okay, so I have had this unit for a week or so now, and had a chance to spend some time using it. What I decided to do for this InkShow was a quick and real run through using some screen recordings to show you what is actually on this thing.
I spend a few minutes looking at the installed apps and utilities, and giving some general commentary on hwat seems to work for me and what doesn’t. So if you are curious about the TabletKiosk Ultra-Mobile PC, or just about Ultra-Mobile PC's in general, check out this InkShow for a real world few minutes with a unit.
Enjoy the show.

The TabletKiosk eo i7210 Ultra-Mobile PC!
Yes — its arrived, and caught me quite unready to do my job as trusty scoop reporter at GottaBeMobile.com. My video camera was out for repair, so a quick IM message to my neighbor Eddie Vanderbeck to borrow a camera solved that (nice to have tecchie neighbors). Then I needed a cameraman, but what I got was a camera”woman”! My poor wife got roped into using technology, which by the way is typically left up to me in this household (or maybe I just never let any of the others get a chance, not sure which!), and ran the camera for me in a hastily planned production! I had clients call needing work, but after all, priorities are priorities, so of course, I stopped everything and did the show!
This is just the first in a series of InkShows I planning with this unit, but I wanted to quickly get out a quick unboxing and walkaround of the machine with my first impressions. I am looking forward to lot of hours curled up with this thing,
If I mispeak any specs, etc., please forgive and promptly correct with kindness, as I said, it was a quick run through. I also must say that except for a couple of minor glitches here and there, my wife Sandra did a rather fine job of running the camera for the first tim in her life (hint-hint, tell her she did a good job — please!)! Thank you darling!
I gotta tell you folks, this thing feels really good in my hands, and I am looking forward to integrating it into my lifestyle. It feels solid, well built, and I think the configuration has been done well by TabletKiosk. Our thanks to Martin Smekal and staff (especially Gail Levy for putting up with all my emails and requests!) at TabletKiosk for getting us this unit so quickly!
Please let us know if there are questions you have, and we will get answers to you as soon as possible!
Enjoy the show.

My kids like calling it “the Origami” and “the Oreo”, my son says it feels just like a PSP or Gameboy, others refer to it as a UMPC or Ultra Mobile PC – whatever it is we name it, it is obvious that Microsoft and Intel have isolated a real “personal” niche. TabletKiosks eo is our real first look at this new form factor and the “Origami experience”. Please use this video review and my “initial thoughts” post as a total review on the TabletKiosk eo and the Origami experience.
In this video review of TabletKiosk’s eo, I take a look at the eo itself, showing my kids interaction with it, an interview with my 11 year old son Dax, overview of the eo, size comparisons with the LS800, software screenshots, handwriting demonstration, resolution demonstration, DialKeys demonstration, and then some closing thoughts. The things that I didn’t mention are covered in the “initial thoughts” post, and if I didn’t cover your particular question or needs, post a comment and I’ll do my best to answer them. I tried encoding this video as a .wmv, but the formatting of the video just never measured up to a quality I was pleased with, so I chose to stick with the embedded Flash Video format.
Things that I didn’t cover in the video:
- Screen rotation is not implemented in the eo – I tried it and it does not work. To be honest, I didn’t miss it and would probably find the experience miserable due to screen real estate issues anyway. The only value I see in portrait with this form factor would be in book reading.
- I ran out of time to get some outside shot comparisons between the LS800 and the eo. I will tell you that the screen is very nice, but in direct sunlight, it is not viewable. That said, the LS800 VA in direct sunlight is not too viewable either.
- I had to revert to screen shots verses Camtasia screen recordings for some of the software demos due to some issues with merging multiple avi files together in our current editing software. In addition, the mic on the prototype eo wasn’t working, so that compounded the issue. For the most part, the screen shots captured what I wanted to communicate anyway.
