GBM InkShow: HP iPAQ 900 Series Business Communicator

- Sierra Modro

InkShow_4While I was at the HP event in Berlin, I got an HP iPAQ 900 Series Business Communicator, aka a really nice PDA phone. This phone has it all - Windows Mobile 6.1 Pro, touch screen, GPS, 3MP camera. Except that it isn't mine anymore. As you may remember, I got an Apple iPhone a few months back, so I have a nice new phone. My husband, on the other hand, has been using my cast-off phone, an i-mate JAMin, for quite a while, so he got the spandy new iPAQ to use. Following in the footsteps of Thomasin and Kathi, my husband David is helping to do a review of the iPAQ 910c.

HP iPAQ 910cThe iPAQ 910c, as it is known in the US, is (was?) scheduled to launch today in "select markets." I haven't been able to find any announcements, though, in any of the major geographies.

HP's site has a price of $499, it will be interesting to see what carriers pick this up. The last HP phone I owned was the 6315 it was fun to play with but not that great as a phone. My HTC Wizard is starting to show it's age and I may consider this if it is picked up by T-Mobile, if not I may go with the Wing.

Oh, the phone. I never mentioned the phone. Incredibly clear phone calls from Berlin to Oregon. Very good call quality.

With all things these gadgets do it's easy to forget they actually make calls also. Heck I'm putting my Wizard to work right now, the R2Hv is on the other side of the room :)

HP 910 to be exact. Seems like for all the Blackberry Bold hype, this unit (whose form factor looks strangely like the 8830) should be very compelling. Bluetooth stereo, touchscreen, all of the available WiMo apps that can be crammed onto this thing... why the poo poo review?

I wouldn't look at this as a "poo poo review" but more as a first impression and opinion from a new user who just got his hands on the device.

Definitely not a poo-poo review! I really like the device, as does David, although he hasn't had too much time to get used to it. He's also not accustomed to getting his opinions video recorded and distributed on the web. :-) It's very capable and makes it very easy to access the wide range of features that the device has.
