Hands on With the Dell Latitude XT Tablet PC

- Warner Crocker

Laptop Magazine goes hands on with the Dell Latitude XT Tablet PC and is quite happy with the capactive touch screen. They’ve posted a video that demonstrates differences between the capacitive touch screen and an passive touch screen, that they are calling a “restrictive” touch screen. Never heard that one before. Meanwhile, Robert Scoble apparently has his hands on a Dell XT and is showing it off as well. Here at GBM, we still live vicariously waiting for Dell to send us a review unit.

Still not worth the premium.

The reviewer calls the the toshiba's touch screen "Restrictive" touch, not "resistive" touch?

Why do I think this is just a reviewer who doesn't know what she is talking about?

That video reminds me of an infomercial where someone tries to get you to buy some ridiculous invention that performs a simple task that you could already do. You know, the ones that make the normal way of doing that simple task look harder than it really is. (Like vacuuming the carpet or peeling a potato)

I have to agree with Cuhulin; I don't think the narrator knew the correct term.

Regarding Ryan's comment, I understand his point of view, but little things like the need to press, rather than simply stroke, really does make a big difference in how "user friendly" Human Interface Devices are percieved to be. It doesn't seem like this should be a big deal... but it is.

I absolutely hated the touch experience on the TabletKiosk eo7110 UMPC for precisely this reason...!

As far as I can see all she showed was the difference between a light touch and a heavy touch device. So what! I really don't think she knew what she was talking about.

At this time is the capacative touch actually enabled or capable of doing anything? Isn't that later in the year?

As cool as the touch-interface is on the Dell, I can't see paying the premium Dell demands.
