Planning a RoadTrip? Check These Out Before You Go

- Warner Crocker

RoadtripI know some folks may have changed their summer vacation plans this year due to the crazy gas prices, but if you’re headed out on a road trip, here are a couple of posts that you should definitely check out.

RoadWarriors Live is a site that follows Steve and his family (his wife, two kids, and two dogs, and a cat) as they travel across the country in a RV. They are using an OQO Model 02 to live blog and also stream some video of their adventures. Steve is also using Dragon Naturally Speaking to dictate blog posts while he is driving. Thanks to OQO CEO Dennis Moore for the link.

If you’re looking for the right tools to travel with, Mashable is featuring a post that includes a number of trip related tools. 25+ Tools for a Road Trip 2.0 includes a bevy of tools from trip planners, to streaming tools, to social tools that broadcast where you are.

We, too, took a cross-country trip in our rig with our pets (60 lb dog and 2 cats who hated each other), but traveled all over the US for a year (including to Alaska). Although I blogged during the trip, it wasn't while driving! My book, QUEEN OF THE ROAD about our adventures was just published by Random House. My website is very interactive with videos, podcasts, etc and has a ton of pictures from our trip.

Hmm, sounds interesting but not sure about the blogging while driving bit!

My high school buddy and I just took a road trip around the states, 7700 miles, 12 days, 282 gallons of gas. I brought my x60, he had an ancient dell running ubuntu, and i have a carputer built into my car with GPS, tons of music, on board diagnostics, and a rearview camera built into the bumper.

My car now has 165k miles on it, hooray for the reliability of the subaru 2.2l. (My brother and his buddy drove the opposite direction in an audi A4, they broke a timing belt in texas and needed a whole new ENGINE.)

Totally worth the grand we spent in gas alone, I took 24 _gigs_ of pictures (around 5k 12 megapixel shots) and have barely edited half of them :P

Question.. How do you get Dragon Naturally Speaking to work properly on an OQO? Seems a bit underpowered.
