Dell Extends Life of XP for a Few More Days

- Warner Crocker

WindowsxpextendedIn the days gone by in the history of my business, the theatre, it used to be common practice for plays to post up showbills with “Limited Engagement,” then “Last Weeks,” “Final Performance,” and then “Absolute Final Peformance.” Of course if the box office was good, they’d be followed by “Extended by Popular Demand” and the cycle would start all over again.

The Life and Times Windows XP is a grand saga that seems to be returning to those days of yore. Users and OEMs just can’t seem to let go. Earlier this week, Dell had started charging extra if you wanted to downgrade to XP, now it looks like they’ve reversed course on that until at least June 26 on select configurations.

The people still love their XP! Still, If I was buying a brand spanking new rig I really don't see any reason to not have Vista on there.

I've used Vista for a year, I'm back to a slate tablet with XP, and replacing this thing with Vista is a big priority. Vista's inking is so much nicer.

I have been using VISTA for abouit 6 months. I like using it. I do not like making it work. I am my own tech support.

The "XP Mole hills" are truly "VISTA Mountains".

Hooking to my home wireles network, getting VPN and RDT to work, authenticating to exchange server, and getting anything near full funtionality from my HP all in one printer took hours and hours and hours and hours. Gateway (E295C) still has not relased updted drivers to allow installing SP1. File transfer are dog slow. etc. ...

If XP had the new tablet and speach improvement I would downgrade in a flash. It is not that peopole "Love their XP" it IS that VISTA is to high maintenace.
