GBM Shortcut: Dane-Elec ZPen

- Rob Bushway

There are times when you just need to unplug from your Tablet PC to take notes, brainstorm, or just get away from it all. However, wouldn't it be great to still capture those notes and have them available for searching? That is where the Dane-Elec ZPen comes in.

The ZPen is a very nice solution that allows you to capture your notes using regular notebook paper and a normal size pen, then transfer them to your computer for searching, conversion to text, and archival. It is a breeze to set up and get going.  This just might be my solution for the times when I just want to use pen and paper, but still need access to those notes through my Tablet PC. We'll see how the ZPen fares over the next several weeks.

Check out this GBM Shortcut where I give a quick hands-on look at the ZPen. A full review will be coming in a few weeks.

The ZPen is available through regular online sites like Amazon for $89.64, and will be available through brick and mortar stores shortly

Can you plug in the USB unit with an extension and capture live to your screen?

Also, will this pen work as a mouse,
if you clip the unit to your screen,
thus converting your non-tablet pc into a pen-touch screen?

I wonder if the memory is upgradeable to say 2 or 4GB, and if not, if the z-pen can store an entire day's notes at work, or a day of lectures in school
