A M400 Tablet PC, Windows Vista and Tax Time

- Matt Faulkner

A lot of you know we've been running Windows Vista on our Tablet PC's for a while at GottaBeMobile.com, and running programs on them can sometimes be a chore.

I have all the W-2's needed for filing taxes this year so we planned to buy TurboTax again this year like we did last.  We bought it today while we were out running around.  Later in the afternoon, I started to wonder if it was going to install on my M400 running Vista or not...  While sitting at dinner I picked up the box, you know, just to look at it - guess what I saw??

Windows: Vista (32) Home Basic, Home Premium, Ultimate, Business

I'm not sure about the rest of you, but this is the first program that I have seen on the box that says it will support Vista (You know, besides Office 2007 and the like) - right out of the box.  This sure will make doing my taxes this year easier, since I can do them right on my M400 Tablet PC running Vista!!  If there is anybody else out there getting ready to do taxes, and running Vista on your Tablet PC, rest assured that Turbo Tax will work!!

I would have been shocked if TurboTax hadn't worked on Vista.

But what's special about running TurboTax on a tablet PC?

There are actually a lot of programs out there that look for specific OS versions, I have been suprised at how many programs or parts of different programs don't work in Vista. There is nothing really special about running it on a Tablet PC except that I can do it without using my work computer, wife's computer or any othe computer that still has XP on it,i t's more about running Vista - plus the fact that it's on the box was kind of different, I hadn't seen a box specifically state Vista yet.

I guess my point is that Turbo Tax is targeting such a broad segment of the population that it seems natural that they wouldn't exclude the OS that will likely be the default on many PCs sold after Jan 30.

It should not be surprising that TurboTax works on Vista. Our base is so broad that we need to support all the popular operating systems and the ones that will come into play as the tax season progresses. I am glad that we have happy customers eager to use TurboTax on their tablet.
