GBM InkShow: Lenovo X300 First Looks Video Review

- Rob Bushway

InkShow Lenovo created quite a stir the past several weeks with the ultra-thin, 2.9 lb X300 notebook.

After visiting the Apple store last week, I would have purchased the MacBook Air had I had the money. I'm glad I waited until I got my hands on the X300. WOW!! I'm amazed every time I pick up the X300 at how light and well balanced it is. The boot speed and overall speed has been pretty impressive so far, too. In my opinion, the extra features like 2 more USB slots, support for 2 batteries, wireless USB, and integrated WWAN make this a no-brainer for the road warrior . The only thing missing, of course, is the Tablet PC functionality.

Enjoy this first look review of the X300. In addition, I also compare it to the X61 Tablet PC so you can get a real world comparison to the size differences. I'll have a more detailed review in the next couple of weeks. Post any questions you might have, and I'll try to get them answered.

sure looks nice, but i do not like that notebook producers continue to build notebooks that do not feature dvi-d/hdmi out on either the notebook itself or the docking station. whats so difficult with that?

Great first look. I am a Thinkpad lover but am tired of their poor quality screens. Does the X300 sport an LED that can be viewed outdoors? If they want to compete with HP and Toshiba they will need to start upgrading their screens.

Sorry Rob,

I should have checked the Lenovo website first! My next question would be how does the Lenovo X300 LED screen compare to others like the Dell 1330, Toshiba R500, HP 2510p or the tablets with LED's? Thanks.

It doesn't look as impressive or as innovative as MacBook Air... I see the similar size but thiner Sony Vaio notebook five years ago but of course it had a much slower chips...

Be interested in know what the performance is like between the x300 (SL7100 1.2GHZ Duo) and x61 (T7500 2.2GHz).
