SP1 Hotfix Pulled Because of Reboot Problem

- Matt Faulkner

Looks like maybe my troubles are being felt around other places as well...  Glad I am not the only one with issues.  And it also looks like Microsoft has pulled one of the Hotfixes for now as well...  I think I'll try again once all this is worked out!

"We've received reports that some customers may be experiencing an unusual reboot cycle after installing KB937287, the servicing stack update we released last week. To prevent further instances of this issue, we temporarily stopped automatic distribution of the update and are investigating solutions to the problem. We believe this problem only impacts a small number of customers. We are working to identify possible solutions and will resume automatic distribution again after we address the issue."

I might not have been having the reboot problem, but I did have the same 'no boot' part happen as mentioned in the article.

After installing the bunch of patches on the last Patch Tuesday (12 Feb) KB937287 was offered the next time Windows Update ran. I installed it with no problems on 3 Vista computers; the only Tablet was a Motion LS800.

If this messed up all computers it would not have been released, but clearly it messes up some. It is good that Microsoft is getting a handle on this problem. After Matt's account I was worried that SP1 was going to mess up so many computers as to trigger a recession.

I got caught in the reboot problem over the weekend with my Sahara. The good news is that we went ahead and put together a step-by-step fix which is listed in our Forums

I also documented the fix in my blog:

I'm happy to say that my Sahara is now working great and I did not lose any files!
