Toshiba M700 Unboxing Recorded!!

- Matt Faulkner

In case you missed the show - the full Toshiba M700 unboxing was recorded from Ustream.  We went on for 2 hours and had a good time with the show.  There were a couple of times where the video was lagging and stopped working for just a couple of minuets, but all in all a good recording.

Lots of people joined in the show, there were up to 60 on at one time with over 800 views of the show.

Look for more videos this week as I take a closer look at the machine and really dig into the functionality, performance, screen and whatever else I can find to play around with...

Why spend 2 hours unboxing a computer?
10 minutes of info about the power adapter. It's boring

When you do tech reviews on a daily basis, you get into "tech guru" mode pretty quickly, so it's easy to forget how to look at things as your average consumer. The whole point of the unboxing is that you achieve that "new user" feel. What experience is the brand new user going to have? Believe it or not, but you can tell a lot about a company based on the product packaging too. It says a lot for how much effort they put into the product.

For example, Toshiba always uses these very low-profile boxes to pack things in which shows they are not only looking to cut shipping costs but cut back on waste as well. Furthermore, the box itself is relatively easy to open and unpack, which means they put some effort into making the whole "getting started" as easy as possible.

PS-- You'd be surprised how many people base purchasing decisions based on the size/weight of accessories. When you're a mobile road warrior you want things as small and light as possible.

Totally agree - we have many readers asking about the size of adapters - has an impact on mobility for sure. For example, Dell did a really good job on their adapter - really, really small. Toshiba's adapter is bigger, but the length of the cord is a real plus for those hotel moments where only one outlet can be found.

One more comment for Matt... you can order the M700 with Vista, so yes the drivers are available for it. I got mine with XP since I despise Vista so much, but it's nice to know consumers have the choice in the matter.

Emergency Pen slot is the sliver next to the docking station port.

Just to chime in - we get so many e-mails about the power brick size it's amazing!

GoodThings - Thanks - I found the pen slot a little bit later in the video... Also - It was jut weird how the CDs were XP but the OS was Vista

Interesting... I wonder if the XP Recovery is to compensate for the people like me who later decide they hate Vista? My XP build didn't include the CD/DVD, but did give me the software preinstalled to burn the recovery media later on.

One thing I need to find out is if it's possible to "right click" with touch (a la Mac two-finger approach or other gesture).

Camera Assist is a floater menu (was on the left side for me) for camera controls. I just used the Windows Scanner and Camera Wizard for webcam access... at least until I had it setup with Messenger.

Great video, Matt... very informative, and I'm glad to see your assessment of the hardware is on par with my own experience. :)

I've just flicked through this with the sound off at work, and I see that the M700s keyboard is a proper layout compared to the M400 with the windows key at the bottom etc.

Does anyone know if the M700 keyboard would fit on the M400? They look the same size...

Thanks

Thanks for the video. I just found this...I've been looking for a new laptop or tablet to take to school and your piece is very informative. Before the M700 came out, I was ready to take the plunge and order the X61T but the Toshiba is much cheaper in comparison.

Since you own both, what's your take? What are some advantages and disadvantages of one tablet over another?
