MacRumors: Intel Confirms Atom-Based Larger iPhone (Mini-Tablet)?

- Warner Crocker

As if all of the 3G iPhone rumors weren’t enough to clog anyone’s bandwidth, it appears that yes, wait for it…. there is another Mac Tablet rumor out there.

MacRumors is reporting that according to ZDNet.de, there will be a larger iPhone running Intel’s Atom chipset. Stand back, the Apple Tablet rumor mill is cranking up again.

Even as a Windows and PPC user all my life, I will be VERY interested in seeing what they do with that. Possibly an Advantage style device, iPhone thin with capacitive and resistive touch, 3G and phone capabilities, USB Host, SD card, ability to save and edit files etc., but with THAT interface, then I'm sold.

If, however, it's locked down and just a bigger iPhone then not so keen. I love my iPod touch but frustrated by the untapped potential. But let's wait and see.....

ZDNet.de has revised their article today. Intel has disclaimed the story. They say they were talking about MIDs and hat just mentioned the iPhone as an example for small internet devices.

Still, a 3G enabled MID with the Apple multi-touch interface would be a nice idea. I do own an iPod touch and while I like multitouch and the easy zooming for websites, the screen is just too small for regular mobile web surfing (let alone the fact that public WiFi hotspots are extremely rare and/or expensive in Germany).
