GottaBeMobile Hardware InkShow: Nova NMS - 5000 Rugged CE Tablet Computer

- Matt Faulkner

Nova Mobility contacted us a while back to see if we wanted to check out any of their products, and with me doing a large field project this summer, the timing was perfect!  This rugged Windows CE device is one slick little number.  I do have to say though - at first I was a little nervous when checking out the unit - it was like a BIG PDA!  I am used to setting up and programming for a PPC sized Trimble GPS units - and this thing has an 8" screen.  Well, after opening it up and playing with it for a few, I loved it!

Rugged_Computer_5000While not a fully functioning Windows Tablet PC OS, there are many similarities.  You can ink, touch and use an on-screen keyboard.  You can get your e-mail, surf the web, communicate via messenger or even write a document.   Those are great features for the device, but the strong point is the applications that you can write for a CE based device.  While it may not be a Tablet PC, if you are looking for a reliable platform for Fleet management, Restaurant industry applications or field work :) then you should check out the Nova NMS - 5000.
