New Item in My Gadget Bag

- Matt Faulkner

Bose headphonesI was really surprised yesterday when my package arrived, it wasn't scheduled to be here until Monday...  I was disappointed when that date was showing in my tracking because I had paid for Express Shipping.  Thanks to the UPS guy I have them for the plane ride!!

So what did I get?  I picked up some Bose In-Ear headphones.  When I opened the package it contained 3 different sizes of ear buds, lanyard, clothes clip, and case to carry everything.  I have them hooked up to my Zune and I can say that I am very impressed so far.  I've never had a good set of headphones, never thought I needed them...  I can now say that there IS a difference in sound quality out of a premium set of headphones.  The lows are incredible - that much of a thump coming out of something so little??? And the crispness of the music...  Now those Dave Matthews Band live shows sound like I am really there!

They will be great for the plane ride while traveling to CES!!!

Matt: A word of caution. As a long-time audiophile, I am more familiar than many with the risks of hearing impairment due to long periods of exposure to high levels of sound and music. The Zune documentation contains 2 or 3 pages of warnings in this regard, and they're there for a VERY good reason! While you enjoy your new earbuds, remember to keep the volume levels lower rather than higher!! A little caution now will pay off in 20 or 30 years...

As for Bose as a quality OEM, I'll NEVER buy another Bose product for as long as I live. And that's an unusual position for me to take...

If you want to try out some other "premium" headphones, check out brands such as Shure, Ultimate Ears, and Etymotic Research. Audio quality is highly subjective, but I think you'll quickly find that Bose is a joke when compared to quality audio equipment.
