Dell's Latitude XT Tablet PC in Healthcare

- Matt Faulkner

http://www.dell.comAccording to this article, Dell's Tablet PC's are already leaving their mark in the Medical arena since the launching of their Latitude XT.  Also, In the article it states that some software is validated to run on the Latitude XT, though I'm not really sure what would need to be 'validated' to make it run specifically with the XT.  Does the touch screen work differently than other touch screens?  I don't think so, but it's still interesting that they are 'validated'.

While the consumer market isn't being targeted with these units, the more Tablet PC's that get out in the wild the better for us right??  Plus just think of all the patients that will be seeing them, they are just spreading the word for us :) .

“Technology can play a critical role in driving efficiencies and improvements in health care,” said James Coffin, Ph.D., vice president and general manager, Dell Health Care and Life Sciences. “The combination of Dell’s innovative tablet and the latest software delivers new tools to help enable high-quality care across the health care industry.”

Does Motion, one of the front runners in the medical Tablet PC market, have something to worry about?

Knowing the generous amount of money granted for research distributed by governmental agencies such as the NIH, I highly doubt one could afford the "technologically" superior Dell tablet PC. Actually the cheapest Ubuntu Dell will do it as soon as my 5 years old machine dies.

Yes PhDs and alike love technologies and are among the poorest workers in the US :)
