Electronic Perceptions Improving their Tablet PC Stock Photos

- Rob Bushway

Last week, we posted a link to some Tablet PC stock photography work being done by Electronic Perceptions. Kathy Burns-Millyard, the photographer behind the work, was obviously paying attention to the traffic, as she has posted a new series as a response to our article

I like the new approach Ms. Burns-Millyard is taking and think she is on the right track. What other marketing type stock photographs would you suggest Ms. Burns-Millyard pursue?

It still seems odd to have the models looking at the camera rather than at the tablets.

It would also be useful to have a photo where the model is showing the tablet screen to another person.

It would also be nice to have a contrasting photo with standard laptops open, and the screens forming a wall between people. Work better together with tablets!

Photos of people holding tablets in both landscape and portrait orientations.

Photos of people holding tablets or UMPC's (the OQO?) outdoors and on the go.

Tight shots of hand-holding-pen-on-screen. Off-hand cradling the tablet for use while holding it (off a desk surface).

I clicked Comments to make three points and Ken Hinckley had already nailed two of them. Besides agreeing with Ken on "showing the tablet screen to another person" and laptop screens "forming a wall between people" I'd get a shot specifically of someone writing on a slate while standing up.

Most marketing of tablets has been about drawing. What we need is marketing based on mobility and interaction with others.

And I almost forgot - they need a photo of a tablet in a jacket pocket.

Hi Guys, all great points that I absolutely agree with :) I have some of what you suggest already, I just don't have them online yet. I'll get em up soon ;)

I see the naming of the photos reflect the new direction. "Attractive Girl With Tablet PC" -- Awesome!

I'm surprised she responded, since you trashed her so bad for the pictures of herself that you suggested she looked like she wanted to "bite your head off".

Hehe Bill the secret of stock photos: It's all an illusion. Those pics were created for business uses, not selling a Tablet. So they were meant to convey things like "hate having a job?" or getting written up, doing a job interview, talking to HR/legal, etc.

I have pics that make me look like an old grandma, and ones that make me look like a hot Harley babe too. The cute college girl above even looks like a 10-year old kid in some of my pics too. All an illusion ;)
