Engadget: Fujitsu P1620 Lighter Than Air

- Warner Crocker

This might be comparing apples to oranges (pun both intended and non-intended) but Engagdet is grabbing some attention with this headline: Fujitsu’s LifeBook P1620 is lighter than (MacBook) Air. Sierra reported on the upgrade/refresh of Fujitsu’s vaunted P16xx line the other day, and for those aware of Fuji’s small touchscreen Tablet PC, I’m sure the update of the specs is welcome news. At least you can swap out your own battery with the P1620.

Wouldn’t it be nice to have both devices in your hot little hands for a comparison?

Side note: Fujitsu makes great Tablet PCs and UMPCs and in my personal opinion doesn’t do enough to publicize their own efforts. I’d love to see them cue up the trumpets and toot their own horns more.

Too bad it doesn't have an active/passive switchable digitizer

I have to echo Sam's comment.

I have the P1610, and don't care for the passive digitizer.
IT NEEDS AN ACTIVE DIGITIZER. Then it would be perfect.
It is small, light (2.2 lb), now that is really an AIR computer. And with removable battery.
The screen resolution is awesome, 1280x768 and can be rotated in either direction!

Comparing the P1620 with the macbook air makes no sense, because these are not oriented toward the same consumers.

Trade-offs are different on both machine. To decrease the weight, Fuji decreased the size of the screen and the pitch of the keyboard. This is not the case on the mac side. Typing on the Fuji, as far as I remember from a P1610, is not great... Watching a movie is ok, not better... But try inking on a macbook or, worse, swivelling the screen :)

The whole question is: What do you choose?? Yeah me too... love inking :)

I agree with the posters above, if it had an N-Trig digitizer, this would be a must-have device!

I have the P1610. I agree it needs an active digitizer. I own several other tablets and I won't buy any replacements that do not have an active digitizer.
