Fan / Brightness utility for Toshiba Tablet PC users

- Rob Bushway

I’ve been following Christian’s posts the past several weeks as he has been developing a utility to control the fan on his Tecra M4 Tablet PC. He started developing the app as a way of prolonging battery life and adjusting the noisy fan.

Well, he has just released the utility and has made it available. Based on his comments, it would appear to work on all Toshiba laptops. You can download it here.

Here is a summary of the features:

* Change brightness in 8 steps
* Change fan speed in three steps
* Remembers settings (put it in your startup directory)
* Remembers settings and switches between them when you change from AC to battery.

Well, it seems that there is no reason to switch from the Toshiba Power Saver Utility. Please enlighten me what this does better?

Being smaller. The Toshiba Power Management software is a large application, and it doesn't support undervolting the cpu (to save battery and minimize the heat produced from the cpu). Since I'm running a small utility called the Notebook Hardware Control for both controlling the speed and the voltage for my CPU, I needed a utility that could replace the fan control and the brightness settings found in the Toshiba software.
