Firefox 3 Beta 4 Now Available

- Rob Bushway

It looks like we are getting closer to an official Firefox 3 release, with a new beta hitting the internets last night. Beta 4 is now available for download.

I've downloaded both the Windows and Mac version and all appears to be running as expected, with the exception of certain plug-ins not working.

Here are some notes on the release:

Firefox 3 Beta 4 includes more than 900 enhancements from the previous beta, including drastic improvements to performance and memory usage, as well as fixes for stability, platform enhancements and user interface improvements.

I luvs me some firefox.
I only switched recently (tried it a few years ago and wasn't interested) BUT the addons are incredible.
I use: tab mix plus, noflash, nosquint, grab&drag & adblock+
For me, the addons make firefox indespensable on a tablet.

(oops, I said something positive)

They may have fixed some bugs but the worst bug we found is still broken; details at http://www.segal.org/java/TextFieldFocus/

jpfx: If you surf with the pen a lot, you should check out All-in-One Gestures. Pretty much replaces my use of browser buttons, except the Grab & Drag toggle.

The bug I mentioned seems to depend on some complicated interaction of browser version and Java version. We haven't gotten to the bottom of the problem but it looks like at least part of the problem occurs in Firefox 2 under some conditions. As they say in Java, "write once, debug everywhere".
