Fujitsu T2010 in the house

- Hugo Ortega

DSC00074No it's not Groundhog Day, but it seems as though it is Fujitsu day for me. A little earlier today I blogged about getting the Fujitsu U1010 Ultra-Mobile PC so I thought I better also let you know that I have the Fujitsu T2010 Tablet PC, too - as seen on Engdget. This is one of the best little scoops I have received this year and it came by nothing less than a coincidence! As I was on the way back from a meeting earlier this week I decided to stick my head into the Fujitsu office (to show off my U1010) and low and behold there on the desk was the Fujitsu T2010! All black an begging me to take it home.

DSC00075 Last time I was in their office the entire world was turned upside down, and Servers worldwide went into meltdown, as I had been given the world exclusive look at the P1610 (then codenamed The Chalice.) On this occasion it is almost just as exciting and definitely as arousing (Can't believe I just said that!) as I have walked out with a brand new Santa Rosa T2010 too!

DSC00076At this stage you should probably know that recently I have put down my hard earnt dollars on a Toshiba R400. Because I am going on an extended holiday (two months) to Europe I settled on the R400 as my device of choice for several reasons. Today however I almost regret it as the T2010 is something else! While I have owned the R400 for the lengthy period of 7 days I am now starting to think of an upgrade!

 Once again I will be uploading a video for your perusal so feel free to ask questions and leave comments. Until then enjoy the pictures.  Make sure you have a pack of tissues with you to wipe the drool off the screen. LOL.

What design do you feel more efficient, the one in the U1010 or the one in your OQO 02?

Sorry, I asked in the wrong post I think!

Hugo, I own an M200 and am looking to upgrade just like so many others would like. I find it difficult to visualize how a newer Tablet PC compares to what I have. Pics are worth a thousand words so, it would be nice to see one or more of the popular older Tablet PC units displayed next to the unit reviewed. That would be more informative to many of us than comparing machines that we have never seen with our own eyes.

This would be helpful to new comers as well since many have seen our M200s, M1400s and TC1100s at work. But they too would like to know whether Tablet PCs have improved in weight and size.

In person I have not seen a Toshiba R400 or Lenovo X??. I have only seen an M200, Motion 1300 and TC1100. I know what an M200 feels like.

Thanks
Jas

Hola Frank!

I will disclose more shortly (via an InkShow) but at this stage I find it hard to be as enamored with the Fujitsu U1010 as the OQO model 02. That is a hard statemen for me to make as I really do love the Fujitsu products. I will explain more soon.

@Jas:

Hi Jas,

this is a great comment. I have access to a few older machines so by the time I do the video I will make sure I flash some comparison shots too. Good call!

@Scoobie:

No touch pad mate. The main reason for this is the location of the battery - a new location for Fujitsu. I will explain more on my InkShow.

Thank you.

Anything on the specs? I have yet to understand why you would want to trade your R400 with this one. Doesn't look any better for offer anymore then R400. I'm getting ready to purchase a T4220 in about a week or so, I hope i won't see anything too impressive then i mgiht have to hold off for a while.

hi, Hugo, has the T2010 an multi-touch (active and passive) screen or only an active screen? And do you know what is the difference between T8140 and T2010? On the wacom site, they say T8140 takes their technique for multitouch, but on the fujitsu Japanese site, they say T8140 has only active screen. do you have some information on them?
I am looking for a light tablet with multi-touch option, so X60/61t, 2710p are not my choice. The only one fit for me now is the coming dell tx. if fujistu offers multi-touch, that would certainly be nicer! Thanks a lot!

@Jimmy:

Hi Jimmy,

Great comment mate! Truth be told I am an avid supporter of fujitsu devices. I have owned a T4210, T4215 and a ST5112. I love them all so much that when I got the T2010 in my hands I could not help but fall in love all over again. The battery life is said to be better than the R400; the fact that the screen swivels both left and right is a big plus; it is marginally lighter than the R400; and I like color!

Here is hat is interesting however. The T4220 is a better machine in my eyes. The build quality is better ad the fact that there is a modular bay for an extended battery just rocks (IMHO). The let down for me is the screen resolution (at least in Australia as it is only 1024 x 768). I srtuggled for quite some time over purchasing the T4220 or the R400 but ultimately the R400 won by virtue of weight and screen brightness/size/resolution. Also the fact that a lot of our Readers turn to me for answers so buying my first Toshiba is probably the right thing to do.

The R400 and the T2010 are both single spindle devices, i.e. the HDD is the only spinning component inside. This is a trend which will continue and Fujitsu will undoubtably follow this across their entire line.

Hope this helps mate. I will anser more in the InkShow shortly.

@lebhaft:

Hi Lebhaft,

The T2010 does not have multi-touch, or even a touchscreen for that matter. here is what is interesting for you, i.e. the T8140 and the t2010 are the same machine! The T8140 is the Japanese spec an sports a SSD (Solid State Disk). I am so excited to hae it with me a believe I can shed a lot of light.

One thing I don't havewith me is the Docking Station.I have been told that it is a thin stand with incorporated DVD RW and more. This should be something else!

I like your idea about the X61 but when I tried it our in Redmond, Seattle, earlier this year I was very dissapointed with the touchscreen. I could have bought the Lenovo but if you look at the R400 and the X61 side-by-side you quickly realsie why the R400 is worth the dollars.

Stay tuned for the InkShow - thank you for your comments gang!

you've done it again Hugo

nice to see a fellow Aussie on the bleeding edge of new technology...I'll be in the marked for a replacement for my Tecra M4 in October, so can't wait to compare the R400, T2010, HP2710 and the Dell...

What are your thoughts...

Hugo,
1. Could you do a size comparison to other devices you have with you? (If any)
2. How do you find the inking experience?
