GBM Contest: Win One of Ten SugarSync 60 GB Accounts!

- Rob Bushway

Somebody cue up some Def Leppard!

GottaBeMobile.com and SugarSync have partnered together to give away ten 60 GB SugarSync accounts, valued at $100 each!

What can you do with a 60 GB SugarSync account?

  • Sync your computers (PC & Mac) and phone
  • Remotely access files from any web browser or phone. Unlike FolderShare, the remote computers do not have to be on in order to sync or access the files!
  • Backup files automatically and securely

SugarSync is getting rave reviews from not only GBM, but from places like the New York Times, Washington Post, and more. David Pogue, of the New York Times, called SugarSync "an impressive piece of work".

Here are the details on how you can have the opportunity to win one of the ten 60 GB SugarSync, one year subscription accounts. It is simple and easy!

1) Go to SugarSync and sign up for a free 45-day 10 GB trial. The trial is fully functional - no limitations. All you have to do is supply your email address and choose a username / password. No credit card required!

2) Download the software and install it.

3) Post a comment on this article telling us how you plan on using SugarSync and the value you see it bringing you. Be sure to include the email address you used to sign up with SugarSync so we can verify you have a SugarSync account.

We'll run the contest through May 15th 2nd, and then pick the ten winners. You must have an account at SugarSync to be eligible to win. We'll announce the winners by May 22 on May 5th.

The best of luck to everyone and happy syncing!

I plan to backup mostly photos that I take using my Canon Digital Rebel XTi.
Wednesday, April 23, 2008 12:41:55 PM (Mountain Daylight Time, UTC-06:00)
I plan to use it to sync my Desktop PC, X-60 Tablet, OQO and various PDAs that I use depending on where I am and what I'm doing.

Seems like a really neat solution and I plan to put it to full use during the trial period.

Well, I've got a Macbook, a Libretto, a U810, an iPod touch, a Zaurus, and an N95 in addition to my desktop. I'm currently using Unison to sync my working set together. It'll be interesting to see how usable Sugar Sync is in comparison.

OTOH, the experience off the top has been less than desirable. I mistyped my email address as @gmail.comg. No verification was performed and it happily sent the email off into oblivion and reserved my first choice nickname :( When I re-did the sign up without stupidly messing up the email, I successfully verified. After that, the link to the download page from the verification page continually came up 404 :P I had to manually visit it from the website...

I travel extensively for professional reasons, and I use an M200 (soon to be replaced by an M700 or Latitude XT, courtesy of GBM's reviews).

I try to carry backups on a portable hard drive, as Matt has discussed, but human frailty, and the simple need to "run out the door" quite often means that I am not current on that drive.

Moreover, I use OneNote extensively, and it would be nice to keep the files synced, as I now do with Foldershare, with the limitations that you have noted.

I've been using SugarSync for a couple of weeks and enjoy it. It allows me to use different computers for different tasks with minimal configuration. I can ink in PDF Annotator on my tablet and view in Adobe Reader on my desktop. I now only run Outlook from my desktop, MindManager on my tablet, and am looking at other apps that don't need to really be on both. FolderShare and SyncToy just were not up to the task and I caused me to use a USB Key as a manual backup due to several screwups. SugarSync has built in Restore functionality.

I did mis-sync between XP and Vista, so I now manually match the directories rather than just using "My Documents", "Downloads", etc...

As an avid GBM reader, I have to say that you have once again come through with a great piece of software to address a problem I've been struggling with. I'm an emergency vet and teach in a veterinary college. I work kind of crazy, variable hours in a teaching environment, and also have responsibilities for lecturing and research. I have a laptop and desktop at home, a desktop at work, an iPhone, and access to MANY computers in the clinic. I rarely make it to my desk during a typical day, but often need to access documents on the run. I've been looking for something that would allow me to work on and access documents from any of these placesto pull up papers on specific topics for the residents, interns and students I work with, and to keep files synced between my various compu This looks like it could be the IDEAL solution. And the iPhone interface is excellent. Thanks!

Having a laptop and a desktop, I need constant access to my word and adobe files at the office and at home. If it works as advertised, will be a valuable tool in my daily life and ease the requirement to have consistent files across platforms. The backup feature is also a bonus!

For what it's worth, I signed up for the free trial about 10 days ago and was so impressed that I dropped my Iron Mountain Connected back-up and will soon probably kill Foldershare, which has long been just about my favorite piece of software. The fact that this combines back-up and syncing -- without the 10 folder/10,000 file limitation of Foldershare -- makes it a pure winner in my mind. I signed up for the 60GB monthly account yesterday, though, so this contest came a day too late for me!

I have been waiting for a program like this for a long time. The fact that it automatically backs up all my files with no effort on my part is awesome. I use it to sync my work tablet, my home tablet, my home pc, and soon my smartphone. I also use it to access my files from any internet connected pc. I believe a truly mobile lifestyle should be hardware independent-meaning I should have access to my content from any hardware device. SugarSync made this possible. Thanks GBM for all you do. Thanks SugarSync for a great product.

I'd be using this to sync my projects from my work desktop to my Latitude, so that I can not have to worry about backups as much, easily work when i'm away from my desk, but still be able to use the power of my desktop cpu without any hassle. Hopefully this will help me continue to provide helpful software to the community :)

I have been using FolderShare, but this takes it to the next level...a secure backup option of all (home and work) computers that I access, plus anytime-anywhere access. Fantastic!

I teach virtual math classes. I use my Table PC from my easy chair to access and grade student assignments. My desktop is used for scheduled chat sessions with my students. It is critical to be able to save all student work and correspondence and to be able to access it from both environments. I currently use another web-based backup tool, but need separate accounts for my laptop and desktop. Files cannot be shared.

Well, I plan to use it to sync my expense reports, and expenses across my four systems, mac, mobile phones, X61t and desktop at work for filing expense reports. This has been a REAL pain in the past.

AND, I plan to use the 100$ I will save on GASSSSS!

I just took a part time position with my church and am splitting time between there and my normal job. I need to have access to files from either location. This will be a great solution!

I began the SugarSync free trial prior to the contest, because I was looking for an alternative to Mozy which I used for a couple of years. I am a backup fanatic! It only takes one bad experience to learn a valuable lesson. I also used Microsoft Groove to keep my desktop and laptop synced. I find that with SugarSync I can run the one application instead of two.

I will sync my office's laptop, my cell phone HTC TyTN II, my home's laptop (at Miami) and since I travel to my country Bolivia often, i want to be able to use the sync file in my place in Bolivia.

This will be very useful. Hope to be selected.

Cheers people and have a great weekend.

This program is exactly what I've been looking for:

"I've just started using this software for Mac and PC called SugarSync, which backs up files between computers and online.

I want my Documents folder to be replicated exactly on all 3 computers. This is so that I'll always have available to me the latest versions of Word documents and PDFs, among other file types, that I need for school and work. Sometimes I will start using a file on my desktop and then decide to work on that file on my laptop. With SugarSync, it's always working in the background to make sure my laptop has that file, and it's the latest version."

Poor some Sugar on Me!

I have tried many sync programs in the past. FolderShare does not work for me because of the 10,000 file limit. BeInSync does not work for me because I find it to be too slow. I tried SugarSync because of this blog post and I must say, color me impressed. It works really fast and I have yet to have a hicup. I find it to be a little pricey but you always get what you pay for. I love the iPhone feature because now it allows me to look at documents anywhere since I always have my iPhone with me.

I need to sync files between my tablet and desktop as I travel from client site to client site. Syncing files between my two computers is essential for me.

I'm using sugarsynch to sync three computers: my workstation at the office, my home workstation, and my laptop. I have a set of folders that I keep fully sync'd across all three machines. I don't have a cell or PDA in the mix; just three XP machines.

Experience so far is pretty good. Most of the time it works extremely well. I have had a few issues with some files not wanting to sync. I filed a support ticket and they are working to resolve the problem. After several emails they called me at work and we sorted through a few things.

I have been very happy with SugarSynch so far. It isn't perfect but it is better than anything else I have used: simpler and more seamless. And the support folks have been very helpful in helping resolve issues.

For starters, I will be writing a comparison article for Newsvine's Tech section, highlighting the differences between FolderSync, SugarSync, and DrobBox. Then I will be using Sugarsync to keep files synced between my work iMac, my multiple work PCs (vista/xp), my TabletPC, and my home Macbook. So far I am happy with SugarSync, it has a great interface and is fast!

I am a teacher at a Community College. As a teacher, I am constantly creating, designing, and refining documents for my students. As students, they are constantly losing them, asking questions about them, and leaving them at home.

What I need is a quick and easy way to locate any of my documents on any computer via the web. Then I can project an assignment on the classroom screen and answer questions. I can easily print a replacement copy of a lost paper when I don't have a hard copy in my briefcase. I can just refer to the document to remind myself of what it says.

I think Sugar Sync is my answer. It doesn't mess with formatting, like Google Docs does. It's certainly much easier to find the document than when I used to email them all to myself. Best of all, there's no thumb drive to lose, leave in the last classroom (usually in another building) or forget to load things on. Syncing is easy to set up and automatic.

On top of that, I can easily work on my documents wherever I am, from home desktop, my tablet, or a shared faculty computer, and I can have them all synchronized. Sugar Sync will let me keep archive copies of last semester's versions of assignments or tests so I can easily access them for future use.

Sugar Sync just works for me. I set up the Beta last week, and I've been trying it out in lots of ways. I had troubles with Foldershare, but none so far with Sugar Sync. Thanks for a great product!

I'm using Sugarsync to keep my home PC and Latitude XT in sync, and to reduce the risk I'll lose files if I lose the laptop. It works well without any intervention from me and means I don't have to think about which PC has that critical file.

I am a CPA with a ton of clients who either fail to back up their data files or find out that their backups didn't work.

SugarSync is an easy, painless way for those clients to backup without any work on their part. Not to mention that the cost is very reasonable.

I teach at a Junior College. I drive 25 miles one way to the college (Yes I get Gas Pains...), so the option of going home to get a file I need is not an option. Having access to my files available via SugarSync can save my day! Just knowing that I don't have to worry about forgetting a file is worth the small fee SugarSync charges. I would love to win this contest, but in reality I win either way because now I will always have access to all my student files thanks to SugarSync. Did I mention SugarSync too many times? OK, I will not mention SugarSync again...

Great fan of GMB, I read every post and follow every recomendation.
Downloaded the trial, installed, synchronised, and it works great........on my laptops and tablets ( I got 7 of them)........biggest dispointmentment is that I was hoping to be able to travel lighter and get it working on my Mobile Windows devices and on my iPhone, but this pleasure is reserved to US residents, and I live in Belgium, work in the Middle-East and travel world wide. If only my docs and xls cound be read by my HTC 7500, I would be pleased, WHY keep mobile phone access reserved only for US operators. Else this is way better than all other sync softs I have tried.

If contacts and agenda (pst files) could also be added, this would be my only tool, still have to use another software for this.

I just installed SugarSync yesterday, and today on my home computer, my tablet computer, and onto my HTC Advantage as well. It seems to be the backup and synchronisation program I have been dreaming of for a long while. I intend to install it on my Office computer tomorrow.

I work as an otolaryngologist in the UK, and use my HTC advantage for taking copious notes using PHATPAD and Evernote Mobile which I then synchronise with my Fujitsu p1510D tablet computer. The instant on / off capability of the Advantage better suits it for instant note taking, as opposed to the waiting and occasional hanging times one gets with Windows. I generally use a 120 GB Western Digital Passport external drive for backup between all my computers, but one has to be very disciplined, and I see SugarSync as the backup program that will finally cut me some slack - the synchronisation and backup is all taken care off silently in the background between my chosen folders, files and computers. With a secure offsite backup as well. Wonderful !!

By the way you guys have a really great site - Well done and keep up the good work.

I'm an artist with a laptop at home connected to my scanner, Cintiq and printer, and a tablet pc for sketching and roaming, so SugarSync is helpful for synching graphics files I'm working on between the two computers so I can always have my latest work at my fingertips.

Because my UX180 is my primary PC, I have to live with the constraints of a 30GB HDD. I have a desktop that sits around at home that holds on to important files that I need to keep. With SugarSync I hope to be able to access that desktop computer more easily and be able to efficiently manage my space.

I Plan to use SugarSync Everyday!
I am going from the East Coast to the West Coast to setup a computer system for my cousin, who has never touched a PC before.
I plan to use SugarSync to document the whole operation.
I will be ordering the system from the East but it will be shipped to the West.
I will scan receipts, keep a list of purchases and put any documentation that I need from my computer on SugarSync.. Back East, Then I will go West and set up the system, and document what I do to setup the new computer, including a webcam .. on SugarSync, and then when I get back to the East Coast, I can communicate with my cousin and I will have his whole system documented on my SugarSync Account.
I will also set him up with a SugarSync account of his own, that we will use to send files back and forth as he learns to operate his computer.

After that trip I will travel up and down the East Coast, and find fishing spots I will take pictures and document the info, (Parking, Lodging, Party Boat prices, Bait & Tackle Shop Locations & prices and Directions for my collection of “Fishin Holes”.
With SugarSync I can document it while it is all fresh in my brain, and when I get home it will be there waiting for me.
I have 2 DeskTop PC’s and a Tablet PC, and I sure will use SugarSync everyday to keep them in Sync.

It’s a great program.

I plan on using SugarSync to back up my desktop files. I have a large music collection and 60 GB will be perfect. I don't want to have to worry about a system failure wiping out my music. I just want to use SugarSync to "set it and forget it." It will be nice to get my songs on any web browser anywhere.

Sugarsync means a world of difference to me. I am a medical resident at a hospital. I often have schedule documents and large medical documents (pdf's and X-rays) I regularly take home. These are all on the hospital secure system. I have no cable connection option to my tablet pc or other mobile device. With sugarsync I can still obtain large and essential documents, that is not possible by e-mail, and sync this to my Tablet PC once connected to the Internet.

On Holiday I can enter a cyber cafe and upload foto's to sugarsync. No need to carry extra gear on the road like cables, extra memory sticks or an exteral harddrive. I safely know they will be synced at home. I can safely delete a full stick aan keep shooting pictures and movies.

I can also work visa versa. Important documents at home can be synced in Sugarsync at be opened at work. Very handy in circumstanceswhere I cannot use my tablet pc. This way I know I'll have my documents, pictures and movies available all the time: meetings, work, on the road, abroad, and familiy visits. This way I could always access medical information on virtually any computer with and Internet connection.

I'm using it to better manage and protect my family. We currently have 5 home computers and 2 work computers and no off-site back-up solution. I'm using SugarSync to move and sync vital info (Quicken, ins, pics, videos, etc.) and both make it accessible and protected in case of emergency.

Before Gottabemobile started this contest, I was on the search and testing many different remote syncing and collaboration applications including HP Upline, Syncplicity, MS Office Live, and the MS Live Mesh - not to mention traditional syncing options like Groove, sharepoint and the syncing power toy.

What held me up until SugarSync was the diversity of hardware that my team was using to access these services: Vista desktop, XP laptop, XP tablet, Windows Mobile, and Blackberry Mobile. None of the previously mentioned services could adequately handle the variety of platforms that my team used.

SugarSync handles all of them easily!

In the process of taking care of our customers, we collect and update information including office documents and pictures. Being field based, we want to be as mobile as possible and look to converged devices to simplify our time. In the week and a half that we have been piloting SugarSync, we have uploaded our shared customer documents and made in the field updates to them and setup our camera phones to automatically send all photos we take to our SugarSync account. All of this is pretty much done with little to no effort other than setup and doing what we normally do. Other team members have easily been able to login with whatever device they were using and find and use or update the customer documents and photos.

SugarSync is what we have been searching for this year to make our business and customer service better.

Thank you!

im a first year dental student and living in not exactly in the best area, and i like having my notes being uploaded offsite like this instead of using a 16GB flashdrive thats crazy slow and with me all the time, so if i lose my tablet, my backup is gone too (stupid, right?). this way, if my computer is ever lost or stolen or dropped, i have all my notes in a safe place no matter where i am

this service seems to work really well. im trying it out right now

I am currently deployed in Korea. I plan to keep files both personal and professional synced using SugarSync. As far as my personal life goes we as a family have 2 tablets and 1 PC that can be anywhere in the world. My wife enjoys taking pictures of my daughter and the goings on back home in the states. To send a large volume of pictures is time consuming and we have been sending a couple of 1 GB SD cards from the States to Korea. With SugarSync I will get any new pictures she puts up and she will get mine as well. On top of that we have a seprate place to have a backup of picture that will not get destroyed if the computer is. As far a work goes I have files that I edit reguraly between two computers and I have to remember which is the most current. SugarSync would make that a thing of the past. The most current will be there no matter what. Even when Im seprated from home I will always be connected.

Thanks for the opportunity to win.
