GBM InkShow: CradlePoint Technology's CTR350 Cellular Travel Router

- Rob Bushway

cradlepoint 2007_11_28_20_53_36 003 11_28_2007 10_09 PM_0001  I love my usb-based broadband aircard. Even more, though, I really love being able to share that broadband signal with those around me. There are ways of doing internet connection sharing in Vista and XP, but it doesn't come close to the simplicity of sharing the connection over WiFi.

In this InkShow, I take a look at CradlePoint Technology's CTR350 Cellular Travel Router and show how simple it is to setup and use. I'll definitely be buying one of these to use during our coverage at CES in January. Being able to share my broadband signal with the other team members with such ease is going to come in quite handy and help with our overall productivity.

I bought the CradlePoint and Novatel U727 right when they came out over at evdoinfo.com.
It's been great so far as I can use all WiFi enabled devices (iPhone,Sansa Connect, PSP, Nintendo DS,etc) to get online anywhere. I was able to make this setup portable by plugging the CTR350 into the Tekkeon MP3400 external lithium battery.

I picked up one of these just about a week ago; love it. Already had a Novatel U720 USB modem from Sprint.

I asked Cradlepoint about a car cord option for the router, they claim they'll have one in about a month.

A second model of CradlePoint EVDO Router will begin shipping December 20th — the new PHS300 Portable HotSpot improves upon the CTR350 by adding a rechargeable battery, providing a new kind of wireless freedom that no previous router ever has!

Check out the full PHS300 Router Review at:

The PHS300 is initially available only from the EVDO Experts at http://3gstore.com

The PHS300 Router big minus is that it doesn't have a Ethernet port for LAN connectivity. What a big item to miss out on figuring that it can serve many useful purposes. You figure the rocket scientist at these firms can think to include
such vital functionality, but then again the business guys would yell about the resulting declining CTR 350 box sales.

I have;
A MacBook
A Verizon UM150
A Cradlepoint CTR350
I do not seem to be able to get them to work together.
Any ideas?

I was wondering if this router coupled with a Sierra 595U (over Sprint Mobile Broadband) would support Vonage? I haven't been able to find an answer on any of the forums thus far. Thanks...
