GBM InkShow: Toshiba M700 Tablet PC Overview

- Matt Faulkner

Toshiba Portege M700 Tablet PCOver the last week I had the pleasure of having the new Toshiba M700 Tablet PC.  In the past I have owned 2 Toshiba Tablet PC's.  My first Tablet PC was the Toshiba M4, I purchased that because of the dedicated graphics card of 128 meg, it was the best on the block back then.  The next Toshiba I owned was the M400 - another powerhouse but without the dedicated graphics.  I was very happy with the M400 and would probably have it still today if it wasn't for the long term eval I currently use.  I'd like to give Toshiba a big thanks for sending us this unit for our hands on look and review!

The Toshiba M700 Tablet PC keeps that 'powerhouse' feeling alive.  With the ability to have up to a 2.6 Core 2 Duo processor, this thing will scream!  The only thing missing is the dedicated graphics card, but that isn't common in any Tablet PC these days...  Join me as I take in the M700 in this InkShow.  I first start out by looking over the outside of the unit, then the keyboard and scree, the latch/swivel mechanism and then look at the screen and the inking.

Enjoy the 26 minute look at the Toshiba M700 Tablet PC with me in 2 different ways

Is it possible to mention the size, in MB, of the video file somewhere in the description? That would be most helpful. Keep up the great work.

Love the detailed description of the outside of the unit. Whole vid gives great advice to potential buyers.
Gottabemobile rocks.

Does anybody have any details on when then tablet will be available in France, Germany, Spain or Europe in general? First quarter of 2008. Yes I know that. I read something about prices starting at 1800 Euros. Hope that's a joke. Cause we're killing the dollar right now so this would be unfair. :)

Thanks Matt, the video was great and the hi-res photos were really useful as well. The M700 is now definitely the tablet PC I'm going to get for myself :)

Good info on showing finger and pen input at same time and how finger always cuts out on pen use.
I am curious about normal vectoring while writing as I have a tendency to pause between words with pen hovering a little and my hand on the screen. Will this slight pause with pen up and nunckle on screen cause vectoring where nuckle is before starting next words with pen.

Wow, thanks so much for adding the file size. I can't wait to earn my way to an M700.

Am I the only person that thinks a 26 minute video is a tad on the excessive side?

Yes its great to get your impressions of the machine, but what most people want to see in the video is how well, the tablet handles pen & touch input. I don't negate the importance of seeing the ports it has, its dimensions etc etc, but 26 minutes is slightly on the ridiculous side.

LOL, I think the video would of been better if you used the camera as the point of view rather then your head.
The flipping the machine around and twirling it while pointing and having to stop to look at it to verify the location of things was rather...not sure how to put it without making it seem like your an idiot..which is not what I want but it made me feel stupid just watching it.

I think it would be better to have a setup where you can point the camera at the machine which discussing the various features and pointing them out, this whole first part had almost no flow at all.
Still, appreciate the information the actual part of the system itself was helpful.
