GBM Giveaway - NOD32 AntiVirus

- Rob Bushway

EsetI’ve been using NOD32 AntiVirus for the past couple of months on my Tablet PCs, and liked enough that I asked the folks at ESET.com if they could send me some licenses to giveway on GottaBeMobile.com. Lo and behold, 6 boxed copies showed up at my office the other day and we are ready to give them away.

This is a one day contest and will expire at 11:59 PM MT tonight. Submit a comment to this news article telling us why you want a license, and we’ll pick 6 random entries from all of those that submit comments. This is open to U.S. and International residents. One entry per person. Please be sure to leave your email address so we know how to get in touch with you. BTW: Don’t worry if the system flags your entry for moderation. It is our anti-spam system, and we will be monitoring all entries to make sure they all get counted.

You can learn more about NOD32 here. It retails for $39 for a one year subscription.

UPDATE: This contest is now over. Please see this post for the list of winners.

I would love to win a license of NOD32, because after recently buying Vista Ultimate and OFFice 2007, I have no money left to buy Anti-virus software. Also, I'm trying to save up for a license for ActiveInk.

Thanks, Doug

Because I've been studying umpc' is for months, am about to purchase, and need a less resource oriented anti-virus. Win or lose, thanks for doing this

I am currently using a Fujitsu Stylistic 5020D with OneNote 2007 for all of my note taking. A few weeks ago I loaded a trial NOD32, based on a review here, and what a difference it made. I will NEVER go back to Symantec, it is such a resource hog. I first discover NOD32 here, then get it for free, what could be better!

Having just bought a new HP TX1000 w/Vista, I need virus protection. My old software is not yet Vista capabale. In my research, I have read many people extoling the virtues of NOD32 but have not tried it. I would welcome the chance to own a tried and proven virus protection product.

I would love to have a copy of NOD32 - I'm currently running McAfee and it slows down my machine incredibly. It's also incompatible with Opera mail - it often slows down the machine to the point of unusable when I'm running Opera, and they have failed to fix this across multiple releases. I've heard NOD32 is very fast comparatively and would love to give it a try as an alternative.

Hi Everyone

I just received word that my long awaited X60 Tablet PC has shipped today (3/29/07), after 5 shipping delays and waiting since Dec, 2006!
I really need a good AV that does not consume a large amount of the CPU, since I will be using the X60 all day for work, school, charity work, and If I have time, personal stuff.
A license to NOD32 would help me a lot.
And I do not want nor can afford the Symantec or McAfee's of the world.

Thank you very much for a Great board.

Best Regards,
Don Scheu

I've been switching to NOD32 and getting rid of Norton AntiVirus every time I do a clean install of Windows. Norton AntiVirus, particularly the 2007 edition, slow down booting hugely. NOD32 has been much better, and comes out as at least as good as Norton AntiVirus in tests of effectiveness.

I have a new Vista computer sitting in boxes, ready to be set up as my son's first computer when he returns from his school trip. Although we couldn't get the computer shipped with NOD32 or with no antivirus software, we were told that McAfee's product was the easiest to uninstall, and we plan to do so and install NOD32.

It would be nice to have a copy of NOD32 parachute in when it is needed so he can started right with his first computer.

I used it for a year when I first got my tablet. I had to give it up to save money. I felt much safer when I had it. Ever since the switch I feel my computer has been bogged down. I would love to get NOD again.

I tried the nod32 antivirus under windows xp and now i'd really like to have it in my new vista system 'cause I think it's one of the best antivirus on the market.
BTW, thank you very much for your work at GBM.

...Having lived with, and reported on, Norton IS, McAfee IS, Zone Alarm IS, and now OneCare, it only makes sense that I should further torment myself by trying NOD32. With such consistently good reviews in the blogosphere, what could possibly go wrong...???

I am going to be recieving my first tablet in a few weeks from Lenovo and am excited about using it in school to help me in my education. Having an Anti-virus scanning program that isn't a complete system hog like Norton Anti-Virus would be a great compliment to the lightweight tablet pc.

Thanks for giving us the opportunity to win a copy of NOD32.

I am an imminent tablet-migrator who has spent the past 15 years in the world of Macs, blissfully ignorant of these things you call "viruses." And I am terrified.

My brand new Lenovo X60 Tablet with MultiTouch is scheduled to arrive early next week and I await its delivery with a mixed feeling of excitement and fear. I am covering the windows of my apartment with lead, blocking all of my heating vents with duct tape, and stuffing towels under every door in an effort to prevent the immediate infection of this exciting new tool with the reportedly weak immune system. My neighbour told me that these Windows viruses can travel through walls like radiation, so I may have to buy a small lead box in which to operate the unit.

And what's this? Now you tell me there is something called "AntiVirus" that can protect my new machine against illness? Alas! Maybe this place called Windows isn't so dangerous after all. Friends, you would be doing a great service by initiating my entry into the world of Windows with a tool what would keep my new ThinkPad healthy and robust. (After all, I did buy the thing on your advice!) ;-)

I'd love a copy of NOD32 because I subscribe to Gizmo Richards' "Gizmo's Support Alert Newsletter" and he's been singing its praises for years. Recently I became a paying subscriber to the newsletter in the hope of winning a license that way (he does a monthly giveaway for new subscribers) but I didn't win.
$40 is just too much for me to justify when I have a free solution already implemented (AVG). However, I know that NOD32 is a far more capable piece of software so I've got my fingers crossed for this giveaway here. Thanks very much for your generosity.

I would love a copy because going to med school in another country with a horrible exchange rate (2.12 dollars for 1 british pound is the best i can get!) has left me with no money to ensure my gateway tablet does not get infected!

I haven't had any luck with AntiVir, McAfee, or AVG in catching viruses that somehow still come on to my system, which in the end forces me to backup my data, format, and reinstall.

I currently use McAfee, and it isn't as resource intensive as Symantec's Norton Antivirus, I have tried the trial version of NOD32 and really love the way on how it notifies me when a virus is found and when I click "Delete" or "Quarantine" it actually does the action; rather than McAfee that reports that it could not delete the file due to an error, and could not quarantine the virus-containing file because it could not be found. How frustrating!

Being a college student, data is very vital to me, and if I were to send my teaching assistants or professors a virus-containing attachment, it would definitely be an "oops" moment. Since I still own a older system (coming up on 6+ years), all available system resources are vital when I have multiple Word and PowerPoint documents open, along with multiple Mozilla Firefox tabs, and some Photoshop files open as well to spruce up those PowerPoint presentations for projects.

As a fellow blogger, online denizen/netizen, and provider of "unofficial" technical support to HP/Compaq Tablet PC owners, I would love to try this product. I will even provide a review of it! I currently have almost no money for software, so my current technique for keeping some protection in place is to reinstall my OS periodically, which resets my NAV use for 90 days, using AdAware and Spybot, and a few other freebie tools. Time consuming to install/reinstall...

Please???

I have researched anti-virus programs, and this one came highly recommended as one that has great detection ability and low resource consumption. That said, I originally got my Tablet with 512MB of ram. I normally use around 480MB on light tasks. I need as much memory as I can. Since I've started using a Tablet in class, it is very important that the OS and OneNote pop-up quickly when I need it or I miss things! Not a good situation.

I don't own an anti-virus program, but use free ones. To have a full version of a highly recommended Anti-virus would most definitely help protect my notes and system.

Still waiting on the ram to be upgraded, until then I conserve.

It's spring break!!! Video review on TC4400 coming soon!

Late,

Jeffyo

PS - Agreed...Norton does suck.

I would like a copy of NOD32 because Norton is a terrible resource hog and tends to interact poorly with my school network. I, though, need to have a very good antivirus because of being on a university network, which constantly being bombarded by viruses and port sniffers. NOD32 seems like a great product, but I have not yet been able to switch due to a limited student budget.

I would like NOD32 because I have a couple of older Tablets (and Acer C110 and a HP TC1100) and I could try it on one and buy it for the other if it all worked out well. I've got 8 computers at home and need a cheap, easy to use anti-virus software that isnt' resource intensive like McAffee and Norton.

Considering I'm about to buy a Fujitsu 4215, I'll need some antivirus -- and I agree with everyone on here, Norton does suck. Anyone actually ever tried to uninstall Norton? It's impossible.

So yes, a copy of NOD32 would be nice, thanks.

I've been testing NOD32 out the last 30 days and really like how unobtrusive it is. My tablet needs me to treat it well, which I can do even better with a free copy of NOD32.

I'm still functioning with an aged and well-worn Gateway-rebranded Motion1200. As an instructor, I take my tablet back and forth to campus, use it at home, out in the community, and on the road. I get files of all sorts sent to me from many, many students and contacts. I could definitely use up-to-date protection on my machine -- but I have little memory and processing power to spare. I'd sure like to keep the tablet running smoothly without it choking on all that "background" activity.

Great timing! I have over the last week tried most of the major antivirus and security suites on my P1610, looking desperately for a low resource app that would not drag my system down through being a resource hog. NOD32 was always on my list but was trialled after BitLocker, Kaspersky and a variety of others. NOD32 has been a revelation and it's running now on my P1610 in trial mode, beating the others in all forms of performance and low resources. If I can't have a free copy I will buy one... but a free one would be excellent.

I would like to win a license so that I can protect my computer. I tried McAfee a while back but it slowed my computer down. I would love to win this license so that I can use a great AV program, at least that's what I have read about it.

As documented here on the forums, I recently purchased an R2H which comes with Norton Antivirus 2005. Along with the rest of the crapware, it was uninstalled to speed up the machine...I'm having unprotected connections, I'm at high risk for an ftp! Even worse, I might end up re-installing Norton, and that makes kittens cry...

I'll be starting a part-time evening MBA program next month. I'd been researching to figure out what laptop to get and then I stumbled on an article discussing tablets. I had totally forgotten about them. Yes, I am out of the loop! I remember back when I was in school they were just starting to catch on, but were far from competing with the capabilities of a standard laptop. I was instantly enthralled and went nuts researching them. After I saw your Inkshows on the Lenovo X60 Tablet I knew I had to have it! I just ordered it the other day and now I'm anxiously awaiting the ship date. Of course, with school I'll be needing a bunch of software: Office 2007 Standard, OneNote, maybe MindManager. I'm also going to attempt going paperless which means a scanner (and maybe a printer for homework hand-in). I really want to protect my new investment and still get the most out of my tablet. It looks like NOD32 fits the bill perfectly, but, as you can see, my budget is already blown!!

I would love to win a copy of Nod32 because I upgraded my LE1600 to Vista, had to get rid of Norton due to driver and compability issues, and have actually been running Nod32 trial version after reading about it on the post you did on Gottabemobile.com and have yet to upgrade to the full version, though I will be whether I win the software or not. I run a lot of program at once, usually connected to a VPN through explorer, Outlook 07 for emails and scheduling, and I usually have Onenote 2007 running to jot notes in real quick, as I am a general manager at a Chick-fil-A restraunt, and it is fast food, so I need to be quick about it!

Would like one of your copies as my trial for OneCare is just about to expire. I am hearing terrible things about OneCare so timing couldn't be better. I would love to switch from OneCare to NOD32.

If I don't win the NOD, can I get a consolation of Splotch? :-)

Hi there!
My FIRST TABLET PC ever (Lenovo X60)must arrive today, and of course it has not a full-licenced AV-Software pre-installed ;-( So I really need one! Besides that I bought the student version of the X60, which has XP Tablet preinstalled! So I have to buy VISTA too!!! I really could save some money, if you would send me NOD32! Besides that I would mention you guys here (ok, I already linked your Video reviews of the X60:-) and YES: That would be "GottabeMobile Advertisement in germany" ;-)

As a student with a rather empty wallet, I had used AVG antivirus for quite some time before making the switch over to NOD32. Why? I have heard praises about it everywhere . I tried it out and it has proven to be fast, light on resource and very effective. However, it is always on trial as I am always uninstalling/re-installing after the trial period is over. This giveaway came at the right time and I hope I will be lucky to win a copy :)

Finally a lightweight anti-virus system that doesn't restrain my productivity!
Friday, March 30, 2007 9:12:46 AM (Mountain Daylight Time, UTC-06:00)
I have used AVG (free edition) for years on all my machines (other than my work laptop, which is suffering under the mandated Norton "solution") and it's been doing a great job keeping me safe.

Ooops, I guess that's not a good reason why I'd want the free license. But I guess since the contest is over, maybe it's fair to ask what this product offers that, say, AVG (free edition) doesn't.
