GBM InkShow: My Wife and the EeePC

- Warner Crocker

thomasineeepc The Asus Eee PC has certainly captured a lot of attention for its small size and low price of $399. Is it the mobile solution for its target market of young people and non-power users, who just need to send out an email, or create a quick document? Time will certainly tell, but in this GBM InkShow, I put the Asus Eee PC in the hands of my wife, Thomasin Savaiano, who is admittedly not a power user or a geek, and sits squarely in the audience that Asus is trying to reach.

In this first, in what I hope will be a series of reports as she gets to know the Eee PC, I basically place the device in front of her and watch as she discovers some of its capabilities and how they might mesh with how she normally works. Her honest responses are quite telling so far, and I'm anxious to see how they may or may not change over the next period of time. So, if you're interested in this device, or know someone in your family who might be, sit back, relax, and enjoy the tour.

This is a really interesting little computer. And the price, WOW! Thanks to Thomasin for being such a good sport and letting herself be a guinea pig for our benefit! Warner, you'd better do something REALLY nice for her!

The EEE PC is intriguing to say the least.
It's interesting to see someone who has probably never used Linux, navigate through the OS without too much difficulty. It's my opinion that once your wife sees how productive she can be on a small form factor computer, her days of slogging around a heavy laptop are numbered.

Rick

PS: Thank your wife for doing such a great job.

Thanks...

That is an interesting take on a first look at this.
Good idea.
I would just make a note to point out that just about anything which seemed unfamiliar or like something she would need help with setting up will have a direct counterpart on a windows laptop from what I could see. It's not like everything from Microsoft land sets itself up and runs with no input needed.
The inkshow was interesting though... and educational... and entertaining to boot.
It's partly pulled off so well due to the likability of your wife of course...
Also... and I hope I am not out of line or offensive.... but... well.... the Mrs. is a hottie.

I have to agree... beautiful wife you got there.
Also I have the eee PC for myself and it is a fantastic little toy. I love just bringing it every where to do all my work. all I do is e-mail and spread sheets so it is a perfect little companion.
good video too

It seems like they could put 16 gig in one of those things pretty easily and cheaply knowing that 16 gig USB sticks are under 100 bucks now.
