GMail To Allow Use Of Other POP3 Mail Accounts

- Warner Crocker

GmaillogoGetting into the cloud just became a little bit easier. GMail is rolling out a new feature, Mail Fetcher, that will allow you to use other POP3 Mail accounts in your GMail mail reading interface. For Mobile Warriors and those who don’t want to use Exchange or other on-line mail servers this coud be killer.

Google looks to have upped the ante with this move considerably (even though it is only available for some accounts at the moment.) As I enter into the period of the year where I travel considerably this looks like it could be a potential boon to my email needs while on the road reading my email on the PPC6700.

Not to knock GMail (I have an account there like everyone else). But Yahoo! Mail has had this feature for years (at least 3-4 that I can remember). I honestly didn't know that you *couldn't* do this with GMail. I used to use this feature on Yahoo! Mail, but it became cumbersome (too many accounts) and I just learned to consolidate my e-mail accounts.

Still though, it is a nice feature. I just checked my GMail account and I don't have the capability yet, but I'll probably be added later. I don't use that account much.
