GottaBeMobile.com's new menu bar

- Rob Bushway

We've just launched a new menu bar to make it a bit easier to navigate the growing GottaBeMobile.com website. We designed this menu to be touch and pen friendly, and we hope that it helps you find the Tablet PC and Ultra-Mobile PC resources you need.

We'll be making more tweaks as the days go by, but if you have any suggestions / feedback, please feel free to leave it.

Right above the menu bar, when one runs the pen/mouse onto the GottaBeMobile.com icon, the display jiggles when using Firefox 2 on Windows. It did this before the menu bar was added, but the problem is still there. It is OK in Internet Explorer 7.

Also, comments are not working from Firefox 2.

Fine by me so far. How about making it so that double clicking on the button goes there? i.e. double clicking on the word "Forums" goes to the forum index

thanks, Mickey. We are continuing to look at that issue.

Fury: great idea on the double click. We didn't want the single click action to take some one to the destination because we wanted it friendly for touch users ( click to expand the menu )....but a double click is certainly implementable would be of a benefit to all. I have just implemented that suggestion - thanks!

I'm writing this comment using Firefox.

Warner - are you using Firefox 2? On two different Windows XP computers using Firefox 2 I get a message "An error has been encountered while processing the page. We have logged the error condition and are working to correct the problem. We apologize for any inconvenience" when even trying even to read the comments. This problem occurs on every GBM blog item I've tried.

Looks great guys!!! Nice Job (as always)

I've viewed the page on two separate PCs now - one with Firefox 1.5, the other with 2.0 - no problems - other than the 'jiggle'. I've fixed that issue on my sites by adding a one or two pixel pad under the images with mouseovers

Posting on Firefox2 as well... No problem at all! Well, the jiggle is there.

It is unclear why some copies of Firefox 2 are working and other not. I'm using Windows XP. I guess it could be an extension conflict. Rob- let us know if you need such data.

Firefox 2.0 on Vista RTM on two different machines.

I suppose it could be some Firefox setting as well - I tend to have similar settings on different machines, as well as simple extensions. Both my computers are Windows XP - one a Tablet, one non-Tablet. Can someone confirm that they have no problem using Firefox 2 and Windows XP? Rob - if you have hypotheses based on the error message I'd be glad to fiddle.

Just for you, Mickey, this comment is being left with Firefox 2.0 on XP.

I have no clue, Mickey. When did that problem ( error ) start occurring?

Trying to post in this thread was the first time I noticed the problem. Not only can I not post with Firefox 2 but I get the error message any time I try to read the comments.

I switched over to Firefox 2 from Internet Explorer 6 a few weeks after the final version of Internet Explorer 7 came out. I don't remember if I tried to access the comments in the interim, so it is possible that the problem has been there for a while.

There are lots of settings and I have 4 extensions installed in Firefox so maybe I can do some fiddling and find the relevant customization that is causing the problem. If the Web site error logs provide any clues that would be useful guidance.

I would ask if anyone else is having this problem, but they wouldn't be able to see this comment so we have an ascertainment bias problem here. If someone usually uses IE and has Firefox 2 installed it would be helpful if they could check for the problem.

Mickey - I have 2 XP machines with IE and FF2. One is my Tablet and the other is my Deskop. I have no problems with either one looking at comments in FF. On the tablet I have the TIP extension installed - maybe that will rule out one of what you have.

You could start a post in the forums if you feel that might reach more people...

I started a thread on the forums at http://www.gottabemobile.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=915. The forums work for me so this should get rid of the ascertainement bias problem.

I also started a thread on mozilla.support.firefox on news.mozilla.org

I succeeded in restoring Firefox to factory settings by deleting the Mozilla folder in Applications Data and reinstalling Firefox 2.

I no longer have the problem viewing the comments.

If the problem re-appears as I re-add extensions and tweak settings I'll report back.
