How About an e-Book Reader with a Touch Screen

- Warner Crocker

NedZad Mujcinovic’s concept for a multi-touch screen e-Book reader makes so much sense, that I would imagine companies interested in the market are already working on their own. Doing away with buttons and relying on a touch screen, especially if there is multi-touch, just seems like a no-brainer way to go. Another nice feature of Mujcinovic’s design for the Livre, is that it has a leather cover. Hmmm? I wonder how soon before he gets hired?

You mean something like the Rocket eBook? Or, if you insist on the leather cover, the SoftBook? See http://www.netlingo.com/more/ebook.cfm for pictures.

How about an e-book reader with TWO inkable touchscreens? That's what the University of Maryland dual-screen e-book reader has.

I wrote a little bit about this a while back:

Did I mention the both have accelerometers too? Very cool stuff is afoot.

Not sure why it's a no-brainer. Having used a Sony Reader, I don't mind physical buttons to flip pages. They just need to be positioned appropriately. The older Sony model is poorly designed in that regard, but I still wouldn't want to touch the screen every time I want to flip a page either.

So you're saying they should add a way to smear fingerprints over a NON-BACKLIT display?

No thanks. Buttons are the way to go on a reader.

Looked into this and I'll keep my HTC Advantage...can't live without the PIM functions and all the other goodies. Downside...PDFs!
