Interview with Dennis Moore, CEO of OQO Coming Up

- Rob Bushway

I'm doing an IM interview with Dennis Moore, CEO of OQO in about 30 minutes.

If you have some particular questions you'd like for me to ask - post them up in the comments. I'll do my best to ask them. Better act quick, though. My interview starts in 30 minutes.

The transcript of the interview will be posted in its entirety right here on GBM.

Hi, I'd be interested in finding out about the following things:

When is the OQO 3 coming?
Where is OQO (as a company) headed to on the longer term? Where do they see themselves in say, 5-10 years?
Will they be moving to Atom?
What is their take on the whole no WinXP for UMPCs deal?

cheers!

Do they plan to
- include 2 GB of RAM?
- a front webcam for visio conference?

What market segment has been strongest for OQO demand?

Where do you see the OQO being positioned as a slew of MID's is released later this year (or later this summer)?

Is OQO looking at touch-enabled screens in addition to the pen, none, or one vs. the other?

Will OQO be moving to Isaiah?

Any plans to incorporate Wacom's touch/pen solution.

Do they see Via's Isiah chip (when launched in its mobile version) as helping to solve the Vista/UMPC conumdrum?

Is he aware of any upcoming developments in battery technology which will meet the increasing demands for UMPC usage to both fully supplement/replace the laptop while delivering mobility - mobility as would be recognised by a manufacturer of a high end smartphone.

I would like you to ask the OQO CEO why Europe is so badly served, neglected, badly distributed ( by one exclusive source - Expansys - whom is overpricing the OQO and offering the worse service imaginable. OQO has a good atraction factor in Europe, but all candidates are turning to other solution after a first contact with Expansys, seeing the prices and checking the horrible service on forums, wheras, whith the right partners, OQO could overwhelm the market, the demand is ther, the offer is just so poor that we all turn to Vaio, Flybook or UMPC solutions, looking at price but mainly service.

why is the so called "sunlight optimized" screen so bad. I have both with and without and can barely notice a difference. there are rumors of the long-term viability of the business. Can you inquire about their expected date to cash flow break-even. Also heard turnover is high, so that scares me about the future.

UMPC's have had very weak sales. Based on articles stating they have 20 Million in sales, assuming say the average purchase of OQO computers and accessories to be say $1699 they only sell about 11,000 to 12,000 a year. To me it seems so obvious that with full windows everyone uses a touch type keyboard and the only popular full windows mobile devices are the ones with that, namely laptops. I see a huge market for a pocket laptop so long as the input is touch type keyboard NOT a thumb input as OQO provides currently.

So will OQO ever provide a touch type keyboard version?
