It's a Mobile Day for Rob

- Rob Bushway

I'm wrapping up production on another MobileDemand InkShow ( look for it later today / tonight ), and then headed out to a client for the rest of the day.

What am I taking with me?

  • TC1100 Tablet PC for note-taking. Been loving using a TC1100 as a pure slate the past week. Wanna know the feature I love the most? The built-in stands that angle the slate up about 10 - 15 degrees. It makes note-taking a pure joy.
  • MacBook running Vista and OS X. My family bought this for me for my birthday. I sold my MacBook last year and totally regretted it.
  • iPhone - access to Google Reader, email, and more
  • Tom Bihn Buzz Bag - the best mobile bag on the market in my opinion.

That's it. Gonna be there the rest of the day doing SQL Server and ASP work.  I do all my project planning and code organization using MindManager, which is available in both Mac and PC versions.

Where are you working today, what are you taking with you, and why?

I am taking my HP 2710p in to the office, using it without external monitor, in preference to the desktop computer; in part because I love to ink and in part because I have ActiveWords on the HP.

I am having to plan for some large scale changes to the building I am based out of, plus a number of our other offices and use MindManager for this. I also work for NCH - The Children's Charity nationally and do 75% of my work initially in MindManager too.

Hey Rob, I use a set up much like you - TC1100 and a MacBook. The MacBook is a real communications kiosk for me - iChat, Skype, all with instant awake from sleep. I do a LOT of distance video coaching, and many of my clients use iChat (by the way, if you have never used a Mac, there is an elegance to the system that's hard to define, but even harder to live without!). I use the TC1100 in slate mode a lot, finding OneNote a great organizational tool. The setup is less than idea - I really want an Apple iTablet, but till one comes, I'm sort of strung out between two systems. However, with a Bluetooth Stowaway, I can get a lot of productivity in one relatively small computer case.

Oh man, how fondly I remember those feet! I'm currently using a Lenovo X60, which I love, but I always end up burrowing through my laptop back to find something to prop it up when I want to write on the screen, which is quite often. I think, even convertibles, should adopt those little feet.

Amazing that that tablet, 4.5 years later, is still, in many ways, the one to beat.
